NCT07595757
This randomized controlled clinical trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using nano-hyaluronic acid (nano-HyA) gel alongside a minimally invasive non-surgical technique (MINST) to treat deep intrabony defects in patients with Stage II and III periodontitis. While MINST is a proven method for cleaning deep periodontal pockets without the need for traditional surgery , the addition of nano-HyA may further enhance soft tissue healing, reduce inflammation, and promote regeneration. Participants in the study will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. The test group will receive the MINST procedure combined with the application of nano-HyA gel into the periodontal pocket, while the control group will receive the MINST procedure alone. The primary goal of the study is to measure the decrease in probing pocket depth over a 6-month follow-up period to determine if the adjunctive use of nano-HyA provides superior clinical and radiographic outcomes compared to non-surgical treatment alone
NCT07575347
This study aims to evaluate the burden and phenotypic spectrum of periodontal disease in patients with rare kidney disorders (such as Alport syndrome, Fabry disease, and tuberous sclerosis complex) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), compared with chronic kidney disease (CKD) controls and population controls. This is a cross-sectional, case-control observational study. Participants will undergo a single structured evaluation including a full-mouth periodontal examination, a clinical questionnaire, and collection of relevant clinical and nephrological data. The primary objective is to compare the prevalence of periodontitis across study groups. Secondary objectives include characterization of periodontal disease severity, prevalence of gingivitis and xerostomia, and identification of disease-specific oral phenotypes. Exploratory analyses will assess associations between periodontal disease and clinical variables such as kidney function, proteinuria, and immunosuppressive exposure.
NCT07405918
This study will evaluate the behavior of the implant-supported restorations (prosthesis) placed into the areas grafted with the 3D printed customized bone (personalized graft produced to fit a specific bone defect), as well as the volume contraction of the printed bone.
NCT07553286
Periodontal disease in pregnant women has been implicated as a potential risk factor for adverse pregnancy outcomes, including being born preterm, small-for-gestational age, and/or low birth weight. Infants who have at least one of these outcomes, known as small vulnerable newborns (SVN)), are at increased risk of early death and poor infant growth and development. Rigorous, high-quality randomized trials are needed to evaluate whether improving the periodontal health of pregnant women can reduce the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes in areas like South Asia, where these outcomes are common and neonatal mortality remains high. This study is a community-based, randomized controlled trial (n=2,280) to evaluate a package of oral health interventions delivered to pregnant women in the first trimester until delivery on the incidence of SVNs in rural Sarlahi District, Nepal. The intervention package will include a daily antiseptic oral rinse and intensive oral hygiene education and instruction. Both intervention and control groups will be provided a manual toothbrush and toothpaste. The investigators will determine intervention effects on incidence of SVNs and individual outcomes of preterm birth, small-for-gestational age, and low birth weight. In a biospecimen sub-study (n=200), the investigators will collect venous blood, gingival crevicular fluid, and plaque in early and late pregnancy to explore relationships between subgingival inflammation, systemic inflammation, and SVN types and other adverse pregnancy outcomes. If efficacious, a low-cost package of oral health interventions - including an antiseptic oral rinse, intensive oral hygiene education and instruction, and provision of a manual toothbrush and toothpaste - could improve maternal and newborn outcomes at this critical time of growth and development.
NCT07551115
This prospective observational study aims to investigate the prevalence and clinical significance of two oral protozoa, Entamoeba gingivalis and Trichomonas tenax, among patients attending the Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Periodontology. While the oral microbiome typically maintains a delicate balance, disruptions in this ecosystem are thought to trigger periodontal diseases. Recent evidence suggests that these parasites may contribute to increased inflammation and tissue destruction, potentially playing a role in the etiology of gingivitis and periodontitis. The study will include 120 participants aged 18 and older who meet the inclusion criteria. Following the collection of demographic data and oral hygiene habits via a questionnaire, a single calibrated examiner will perform comprehensive clinical periodontal examinations. Measurements will include Plaque Index (PI), Gingival Index (GI), Bleeding on Probing (BOP), Probing Pocket Depth (PPD), Clinical Attachment Loss (CAL), and Gingival Recession (GR) based on the 2017 World Workshop Classification of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases and Conditions. To detect the presence of parasites, unstimulated whole saliva samples and subgingival plaque samples from the deepest periodontal pockets will be collected from each participant. These samples will be analyzed immediately at the Parasitology Laboratory using light microscopy (10X and 40X magnification) to identify live trophozoites. By evaluating the relationship between parasite prevalence and periodontal status, this research aims to contribute to the limited literature on oral protozoa in Turkey and increase clinical awareness regarding their impact on oral health.
NCT07520968
The study aims to compare the efficacy of a novel mouthwash based on microRepair ABX and an antibacterial complex with that of 0.12% chlorhexidine, both used as adjuncts to scaling and root planing.
NCT07468929
The goal of this observational study is to study the molecular markers of stress in blood samples from people who are having periodontal surgery. The main question it aims to answer are: * How do the levels of inflammatory molecules in the blood change during a periodontal surgery? * How are the levels of inflammatory molecules in a person having surgery different from the levels in a person having a nonsurgical procedure? * Participants will be people who are having a periodontal surgery or a nonsurgical periodontal treatment as part of their dental care. Participants will be asked to let the investigator take blood samples from them before, during, and after the procedure is being done. The blood will later be analyzed for substances in the blood that are associated with inflammation.
NCT07540624
This study aims to evaluate and compare the clinical, biochemical, and microbiological effects of chlorhexidine and Morus nigra (blackberry) mouthwashes used as an adjunct to non-surgical periodontal treatment (scaling and root planing - SRP) in patients with periodontal diseases. The participants will be divided into three groups: a control group receiving only SRP, a group receiving SRP combined with chlorhexidine mouthwash, and a group receiving SRP combined with Morus nigra mouthwash. Clinical periodontal parameters, gingival crevicular fluid levels of inflammatory markers (including TNF-a, IL-1b, and IL-10), and subgingival plaque microbiological profiles (such as red complex bacteria and Fusobacterium) will be evaluated at baseline, 1 month, and 3 months after the treatment.
NCT07507045
In Bangladesh, over 95% of pregnant women suffer from gum disease (gingivitis or periodontitis), yet oral health is rarely included in standard pregnancy check-ups. This study tests a new "Integrated Oral Health Promotion Package" to see if teaching oral hygiene during routine prenatal visits can improve the health of mothers. Pregnant women (ages 18-45) will be divided into two groups. The intervention group will receive two face-to-face education sessions with a dental assistant, learn a specific tooth-brushing technique, and receive weekly SMS text reminders to brush their teeth. The control group will receive the standard pregnancy care currently offered in Bangladesh. Researchers will track the participants for 12 weeks to see if the education and reminders lead to better brushing habits (twice-daily) and cleaner teeth and gums compared to the standard care group.
NCT07489924
This randomized non-inferiority clinical trial aims to evaluate the microbiological effect of 0.12% chlorhexidine and 0.05% cetylpyridinium vs. probiotics (Lactobacillus reuteri Prodentis) on Porphyromonas gingivalis in patients with periodontal disease and diabetes mellitus in Colima, where molecular biology tests such as qPCR will be performed at the end, before and after treatment in each of the groups.
NCT07476417
Mowat-Wilson Syndrome (MWS) is a rare syndrome characterized by the presence of facial gestalt and delayed psychomotor development, variably associated with intellectual disability, epilepsy, Hirschsprung's disease (HSCR) and multiple congenital malformations. Although there is evidence of the presence of dental and craniofacial anomalies in MWS, little epidemiological data is available to date. The goal of this observational study is to assess oral health and dento-facial phenotype of people affected by Mowat-Wilson Syndrome (MWS). In addition, the Oral Health Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) will be investigated.
NCT07482280
Enamel is the most calcified tissue in the body and is composed of 92-96% by organic substances in particular hydroxyapatite. Hydroxyapatite nanoparticles are similar to the morphology and structure of tooth enamel apatite crystals and has been studied as a biomimetic material for enamel remineralization. Dentin hypersensitivity is a very common disorder in the adult population and it is characterized by short and intensive pain, in response to thermal or chemical stimuli. Dentin hypersensitivity can be generalized or localized, it can simultaneously affect one or more tooth surfaces and depends on the duration of the stimulus applied. In addition, there are numerous factors that can affect this condition, including gum recessions, enamel erosion, dentin exposure and periodontal disease. Many patients suffer from hypersensitivity during professional oral hygiene. The Vector system (Durr Dental, Bietigheim-Bissin gen, Germany) generates ultrasonic vibrations at a frequency of 25 kHz, which are converted by a resonant ring in a horizontal oscillation that is deflected vertically. In particular, the Vector Polish handpiece with a solution of hydroxyapatite is activated through ultrasound and it has the ability to favor the occlusion of the dentinal tubules leading to a reduction in hypersensitivity. The tip of the handpiece moves parallel along the axis of the insert, suitable for use in combination with the polishing fluid containing hydroxyapatite. The presence of this fluid associated with ultrasonic allows the root biofilm to be broken down thanks to cavitation and hydrodynamic forces; furthermore, avoiding horizontal vibrations caused a lower hypersensitivity compared to manual instruments. The aim of this randomized, controlled, split-mouth study is to investigate whether this device is effective in maintaining periodontal patients and is more gentle and comfortable during treatment, specifically in reducing sensitivity. To test this hypothesis, the mouth of each patients, upon initial evaluation, were divided in 2 parts: before a session of nonsurgical supportive therapy in half mouth the test sites (probing depth \> 5 mm or 5 mm with bleeding on probing) are treated with a traditional handpiece (control group) in the other half mouth the test sites are treated with an innovative handpiece which carries hydroxyapatite (test group). The prevalence of residual pockets will be evaluated at 6 weeks, 3 and 6 months after the initial therapy and compared between the two groups.
NCT04645693
This is a prospective cohort study designed to investigate the range of metabolic abnormalities observed in patients living with HIV on antiretroviral therapy. This study will also explore the concurrent role of poor oral health in supporting and driving chronic immune activation and inflammation in HIV infection.
NCT07480291
This cross-sectional observational study aimed to evaluate periodontal clinical parameters and inflammatory cytokine levels in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF), saliva, and serum in patients with non-infectious uveitis (NIU) compared with systemically healthy individuals. Twenty-five patients diagnosed with non-infectious uveitis and twenty-seven age- and sex-matched healthy controls were included. Clinical periodontal parameters including probing pocket depth, clinical attachment loss, plaque index, gingival index, and bleeding on probing were recorded. Biological samples including saliva, gingival crevicular fluid, and serum were collected. Levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-2, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, and IL-17 were measured using ELISA. The study aimed to investigate whether periodontal inflammatory status and systemic cytokine profiles are associated with non-infectious uveitis.
NCT07025291
The aim of this study is to compare the salivary levels of HIF-2 alpha, MMP-9, and TRAP-5b among healthy individuals, patients with gingivitis, and patients with periodontitis; to examine the relationship between these levels and clinical parameters; and to determine their effectiveness in distinguishing periodontal disease from a healthy condition. It will be evaluated whether these biochemical mediators can be used as diagnostic biomarkers in the diagnosis of periodontal disease. Periodontal health is defined as the absence of signs of inflammation. Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gums and, if left untreated, can progress to periodontitis, a more severe condition characterized by the destruction of the supporting structures of the teeth. In this destruction, the host immune response to bacterial products and various inflammatory mediators (cytokines, MMPs) play a role. MMP-9 plays a significant role in the progression of inflammation and tissue damage. HIF-2 alpha is a factor that regulates bone formation and resorption and is activated in hypoxic or inflammatory environments. TRAP-5b is a specific marker of osteoclast activity and bone resorption. In the literature, there is no study that evaluates these three biomarkers together in saliva samples in the context of periodontal disease. This study aims to investigate the changes in these salivary biomarkers in the presence of periodontal disease, their diagnostic potential, and their relationship with clinical parameters. The findings may also provide insights for future treatments targeting these cytokine pathways.
NCT05813236
The aim of this study is to prove that Novosyn Quick and Monosyn Quick are equivalent in early wound healing in adult patients undergoing resective periodontal surgery. In order to show equivalence between Novosyn Quick and Monosyn Quick EHS, which is composed of 3 parameters: clinical signs of reepithelization, clinical signs of haemostasis and clinical signs of inflammation, will be calculated for each suture 10 ± 5 days postoperatively and cannot differ more than 2 points. Furthermore, complications, the handling of the suture material, pain, satisfaction of the patient and bacterial contamination of the thread (optional) will also be assessed as secondary objectives.
NCT07449546
This observational study aims to evaluate the association between periodontal status and trimethylamine-N-oxide (TMAO) levels in patients diagnosed with peripheral artery disease (PAD). Both serum and saliva TMAO concentrations will be measured and compared according to periodontal health, periodontitis, and edentulism status. Clinical periodontal examinations and biological sample collection will be performed. The study seeks to investigate whether oral health status is associated with systemic TMAO levels in individuals with PAD.
NCT07424612
In this study, periodontal disease classifications of patients with periodontitis were performed using a mobile application and conventional methods. A total of 122 patients with periodontitis who presented to the Periodontology Clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry at Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University were included in the study. The classification of periodontitis was carried out according to the 2017 World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases and Conditions and the EFP S3-level clinical practice guideline. In the study, periodontal classification of 122 patients with periodontitis was performed using a mobile application (Peribrain) by a student, a clinical student (manual), and a clinician (manual). In the mobile application, the following parameters were assessed: age, presence of diabetes, smoking status, deepest periodontal pocket depth, interproximal attachment loss, tooth loss, furcation defects, bite collapse, tooth migration, radiographic interproximal bone loss (%), and vertical bone loss. For classification, plaque index, gingival index, bleeding on probing, gingival recession, and clinical attachment level were measured in the patients. The results of the three groups were compared with each other.
NCT07069140
This randomized controlled clinical trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a lactoferrin-based oral hygiene protocol in improving periodontal health during pregnancy. Forty pregnant women between the fourth and eighth month of gestation will be enrolled and randomly assigned to one of two groups. The trial group will undergo professional dental cleaning every three months and will perform home oral hygiene using both a lactoferrin-based toothpaste and a lactoferrin-based mouthwash (Emoform Glic) twice daily. The control group will follow the same schedule of professional dental cleanings but will use only the lactoferrin-based toothpaste (Emoform Glic) at home. The primary objective is to assess the reduction in dental plaque, measured by the Plaque Index (PI). Secondary outcomes include improvements in gingival inflammation, probing pocket depth, clinical attachment level, and other periodontal indices. Participants will be followed for six months, with evaluations conducted at baseline, 1, 3, and 6 months.
NCT05533528
The objective of this study will be to evaluate a new protocol for the surgical treatment of periodontal disease with two novelties: to make a single incision in the midline of the interproximal area to respect the vascular supply and preserve the granulation tissue with regenerative potential. The investigators will carry out a controlled and randomized clinical trial with a control group (n=25; modified Kirkland flap) and a test group (n=25; experimental surgical protocol: incision in the mid-interproximal area of the papilla and preservation of the granulation tissue). Clinical parameters will be taken at the time of surgery and 12 months follow-up: bleeding on probing (BoP), clinical attachment level (CAL), residual probing depth (rPD),Probing pocket depth reduction (PPDr), recession (REC), interproximal gingival recession (iGR), width of keratinized gingiva (KT), gain of supra-alveolar clinical attachment (SUPRA-AG), early wound healing index (EHI).
