The primary objective of this study is to study in heart failure (HF) patients to better assess HF disease state, which can aid in management and improve outcomes. Primary aims of the study include: (1) Measure HR and RR at rest and during daily activity using the WHOOP device. (2) Correlate HR and RR response to activity to New York Heart Association (NYHA) class and 90-day HF hospitalization rate. (3) Identify additional predictors of NYHA class and HF hospitalization rate for algorithm development to use the WHOOP device as a clinical tool for HF management.

The study objective is to measure the value of the third heart sound (S3) for the prediction of recurrent heart failure (HF). For the purpose of this study, a heart failure event will be defined as a hospitalization with a primary diagnosis of heart failure. The main hypothesis of the study is that measurement of S3, using a microelectronic machine microphone positioned in a wearable device (Nanowear Wearable Congestive Heart Failure Management System) near the time of discharge from a hospitalization for heart failure, can predict which patients will be at high risk for a heart failure event, thereby identifying a group in whom increased surveillance and monitoring may decrease hospital readmissions for worsening heart failure.

About 1 in every 700 babies born in the United States has Down's Syndrome (DS; Trisomy 21), 99% of whom have some degree of intellectual disability. Recent advances in medicine have resulted in a dramatically improved lifespan of about 25 to 60 years of age. Yet, there is limited data about anesthetic management in this increasing patient population. The bispectral index (BIS) monitor is a non-invasive monitoring device that reports a value between 0 and 100correlating to level of consciousness of an individual. A value of 0 indicates lack of brain activity while 100 indicates an awake/alert state. This monitor can be used to assess the depth of anesthesia. Patients with intellectual disability from congenital neurological diseases have lower BIS values compared to patients without any neurological impairment (Valkenburg 2009). The results may suggest that DS patients would require less anesthetic drugs compared to patients without any neurological impairment. To date, there are no studies in DS patients.
