The purpose of this study is to determine the blood pressure lowering responses of various dose combinations of nifedipine GITS and candesartan as compared to treatment with each component on their own (monotherapy) and placebo (a look-alike tablet without active ingredient). The drugs - nifedipine GITS and candesartan - which are being investigated are currently approved for use in patients with essential hypertension alone or together with other antihypertensive drugs (combination therapy), but the optimal dose of nifedipine GITS and candesartan used together in the treatment of essential hypertension has not been established yet. In this study patients will be treated with various doses of nifedipine GITS and/or candesartan or placebo. These different regimens will be administered once a day and will be assessed based on their blood pressure lowering effects (mean sitting diastolic blood pressure) in subjects with mild to moderate essential hypertension.

Efficacy and Safety study of Lurasidone in pediatric patients.

The purpose of this study is to see how fast and accurate two different techniques used by physicians to insert catheters in children are. Catheters are tiny tubes which carry fluids, blood and sometimes liquid food into a person's vein. The technique currently used relies on the physical landmarks and using fingers to feel the anatomy in which to place the catheter in the vein or artery. The investigators are changing to a technique where they will use ultrasound at the patient's bedside to help physicians with placing the catheter into the blood vessel. They are comparing the use of these two methods to determine which is faster and requires fewer needle sticks.

An open-label, dose-adjustment, extension study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of eltrombopag for the treatment of subjects with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) who have previously been enrolled in an eltrombopag trial. This study will allow adjustment of the eltrombopag dose to achieve an individualized dose and schedule for each subject. In addition, the ability to reduce the dose of concomitant ITP medications in the presence of eltrombopag, while maintaining platelet counts = 50,000/μL will be investigated.

This is a multicenter, open-label, single-arm, expanded access treatment study designed to provide obinutuzumab to patients with previously untreated Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) in combination with chlorambucil and to evaluate the safety and efficacy of obinutuzumab administered in combination with chlorambucil. This study will enroll patients with previously untreated CD20-positive CLL requiring treatment according to the IWCLL guidelines (Hallek et al 2008), as assessed by the investigator.

Continuous Subcutaneous Insulin Infusion (CSII) via insulin pump therapy has been shown to improve quality of life and glucose control in many patients with diabetes opting for this treatment modality. Despite significant innovation and advancement in pump technology, insulin infusion sets have been an area where innovation has been significantly lacking with no clinical studies performed prior to product launches. BD has developed a subcutaneous infusion set with FlowSmart™ Technology designed to address patient comfort, insulin delivery and flow interruptions. According to preliminary animal and clinical studies, this technology results in lower infusion pressure indicating more consistent insulin delivery. The FlowSmart infusion set has been previously tested in prototype form with healthy non-diabetic subjects with the sets inserted by nurses, and with CSII-using patients who self-inserted the FlowSmart infusion set in a clinical research setting. The purpose of this study is to determine if insulin pump users prefer using the BD FlowSmart infusion set compared to their current set with respect to insertion pain and wear comfort.

Primary objective: \- To evaluate the effect of lixisenatide versus placebo over a period of 24 weeks on glycemic control, as evaluated by glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) reduction, in older type 2 diabetes participants (T2DM) who are inadequately controlled with their current anti-diabetic treatment regimen. Main secondary objective: \- To assess the safety and tolerability of lixisenatide compared to placebo in older T2DM participants (including occurrence of documented (Plasma Glucose PG \< 60 mg/dL) symptomatic hypoglycemia and gastrointestinal side effects). RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as gemcitabine and paclitaxel albumin-stabilized nanoparticle formulation, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. Giving combination chemotherapy together with bevacizumab may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving paclitaxel albumin-stabilized nanoparticle formulation and gemcitabine together with bevacizumab works in treating patients with metastatic breast cancer.

Others find cancer cells and help kill them or carry cancer-killing substances to them. Combinations of biological substances in denileukin diftitox may be able to carry cancer-killing substances directly to cancer cells. Giving rituximab together with denileukin diftitox may kill more cancer cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving rituximab together with denileukin diftitox works in treating patients with previously untreated stage III or stage IV follicular B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

This partially randomized phase II trial studies giving capecitabine and vorinostat in treating patients with head and neck cancer that has come back after previous treatment or that has spread to other areas in the body. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as capecitabine, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Vorinostat may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. It is not yet known whether giving capecitabine together with vorinostat is more effective than capecitabine alone in treating patients with cancer of the head and neck cancer.
