Chemotherapy drugs, used in the treatment of cancer, have the potential of inducing peripheral neuropathy (PN) as a side effect. This side effect is commonly referred to as CIPN, or chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. The Lilac Glove and Boot devices apply a low pressure across the surface of the hands and feet, respectively, to reduce access of chemotherapy to the peripheral nerves on the hands and feet. The small amount of pressure reduces the level of chemotherapy reaching the peripheral nerves, hence increasing the likelihood of nerve preservation during treatment and thus may potentially temporarily prevent the onset of moderate to severe PN symptoms induced by chemotherapy in the hands and feet while receiving treatment

The investigators are interested in studying the effect of an animated video depicting a nail biopsy procedure on the anxiety, health literacy, and satisfaction of participants recommended to undergo a nail biopsy procedure. The investigators hypothesize that the animated video will reduce preoperative anxiety, increase health literacy, and increase patient satisfaction in relation to nail biopsy procedures.

This phase II Pediatric MATCH trial studies how well ivosidenib works in treating patients with solid tumors, including central nervous system tumors, lymphomas and histiocytic disorders that have not responded to (refractory) or have come back after (recurrent) prior treatment that have IDH (isocitrate dehydrogenase) 1 genetic alterations (mutations). Ivosidenib may block the growth of cancer cells that have specific genetic changes in an important signaling pathway called the IDH pathway.

This study evaluates the diagnostic performance of a multimodal artificial intelligence (AI) system (AIMD.1) using de-identified medical images and semi-synthetic patient simulations. The study combines retrospective analysis of existing publicly available image datasets with prospective data collection from licensed clinicians who complete diagnostic evaluation tasks. In the One-Shot Vision Differential Evaluation (OSVDE) stage, clinicians review individual de-identified medical images and generate a ranked list of potential diagnoses based solely on visual features. In the Multi-Step Conversational Non-Inferiority Evaluation (MSCNE) stage, clinicians complete diagnostic assessments using semi-synthetic patient simulations derived from de-identified medical images. Clinician performance will be compared with the AI system on the same diagnostic tasks. Human participants consist solely of licensed clinicians who provide diagnostic responses. Medical images and simulated cases are study materials and are not considered study participants. No identifiable patient data are used, and the AI system is evaluated in an offline research environment and is not used for clinical decision-making or patient care.

This is a Phase 2 multicenter, randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled study that will evaluate the safety and efficacy of host-directed therapeutics in hospitalized adults diagnosed with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) utilizing a platform trial design. This study will test whether tranexamic acid (TXA), a medication used to reduce bleeding, can decrease blood loss in patients having urethroplasty. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either a single intravenous dose of TXA at the start of anesthesia or standard care without TXA. Researchers will compare hemoglobin change after surgery as well as estimated blood loss and complications.

The purpose of this pilot study was to compare two commonly employed intravenous drug combinations; I) nitrous oxide, midazolam, fentanyl, and ketamine and II) the same combination with substitution of propofol for ketamine, for use during wisdom teeth extraction. Measures of recovery, amnesia testing 20 minutes after induction and after completion of recovery tests, patient satisfaction, and surgeon satisfaction will be evaluated. The data from this pilot study will be used to obtain preliminary estimates of effect sizes and to select primary and secondary endpoints for the design of a larger scale and more definitive trial of the two anesthetic approaches.

People with spinal cord injury (SCI) experience a host of secondary complications that can impact their quality of life and functional independence. One of the more prevalent complications is spasticity, which occurs in response to spinal cord damage and the resulting disruption of motor pathways. Common symptoms include spasms and stiffness, and can occur more than once per hour in many people with SCI. Spasticity can have a negative impact over many quality of life domains, including loss of functional independence, activity limitations, and even employment. Its impact on health domains is also pronounced, with many people who have spasticity reporting mood disorders, depression, pain, sleep disturbances, and contractures. Spasticity can interfere with post-injury rehabilitation and lead to hospitalization. There are many treatments for spasticity in this population. However, many do not have long-term efficacy, and, if they do, they are often pharmacological in nature and carry side effects that could limit function or affect health. The goal of this pilot, randomized-controlled study is to investigate the potential efficacy and safety of a non-invasive treatment with a low side effect profile, extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT). ESWT has shown some benefits in people with post-stroke spasticity with no long term side effects. Thirty individuals with chronic, traumatic SCI will be recruited. Fifteen will be provided with ESWT while the other fifteen will be given a sham treatment. Clinical and self-report measures of spasticity and its impact on quality of life will be collected, as well as quantitative ultrasound measures of muscle architecture and stiffness. The ultimate goal of this pilot project is to collect the data necessary to apply for a larger randomized-controlled trial. Conducting a larger trial will allow for a more powerful estimation of safety and efficacy of ESWT as a treatment for spasticity in people with SCI.

This randomized phase I/II trial is studying the side effects and best dose of cediranib maleate when given together with pemetrexed disodium and cisplatin and to see how well it works in treating patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma. Drugs used in chemotherapy, pemetrexed disodium and cisplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Cediranib maleate may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth and by blocking blood flow to the tumor. Giving pemetrexed disodium and cisplatin together with cediranib maleate may kill more tumor cells.

Hormone therapy, or androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is a standard way to treat prostate cancer. It works by reducing the amount of the main male sex hormone, testosterone in the body. Androgen receptor pathway inhibitors (ARPIs) are another type of hormone therapy. They either slow down how much testosterone is made or block testosterone from reaching the prostate cancer cells. Abiraterone acetate (AA) is an ARPI that is used to treat advanced prostate cancer. This type of treatment is usually given as a tablet with a steroid called prednisone/prednisolone to manage any medical problems from the hormone therapy. ASP5541 is a different form of abiraterone acetate. It is given as an injection into the muscle. In this study, ASP5541 will be given to men with advanced prostate cancer, both with and without prednisone/prednisolone. This study will check the safety of ASP5541 and compare how well ASP5541 works in men with advanced prostate cancer compared to abiraterone acetate. The main aims of the study are: * To check how well ASP5541 with prednisone/prednisolone works compared to AA with prednisone/prednisolone in men with advanced prostate cancer who haven't previously been treated with an ARPI. * To check the safety of ASP5541 given by itself in men with advanced prostate cancer that haven't previously been treated with an ARPI. * To check how well ASP5541 given by itself works compared to AA with prednisone/prednisolone in men with advanced prostate cancer that haven't previously been treated with an ARPI. * To check the safety of ASP5541 with prednisone/prednisolone in Japanese men with advanced prostate cancer. Adult men with a certain type of advanced prostate cancer can take part. Their cancer has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic). The different types are: * Metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC). Prostate cancer that needs testosterone to grow. * Metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). Prostate cancer that continues to grow even when testosterone levels are low. In this study there will be 3 treatment groups: * In Group 1, men with mCRPC who haven't previously been treated with an androgen receptor pathway inhibitor will either be given ASP5541 and prednisone/prednisolone or be given abiraterone acetate and prednisone/prednisolone. * In Group 2, men with mHSPC who haven't previously been treated with an androgen receptor pathway inhibitor will either be given ASP5541 by itself or be given abiraterone acetate with prednisone/prednisolone. * In Group 3, Japanese men with mCRPC or mHSPC who may or may not have previously been treated with an androgen receptor pathway inhibitor will be given ASP5541 with prednisone/prednisolone. ASP5541 will be given as an injection into a muscle every 12 weeks. Men with mCRPC will take prednisone/prednisolone twice daily and men with mHSPC will take prednisone/prednisolone once daily. Abiraterone acetate will be given as tablets to be taken once daily. All groups will also receive the standard of care treatment, such as androgen deprivation therapy. The men in the study will visit their clinic regularly during and after treatment for health checks, including checking for any medical problems. Some men (Group 2) will check their blood pressure weekly at home. On some visits they will also have scans to check for any changes in their cancer. The number of visits and type of safety checks done at each visit will depend on the health of each person and when they completed their treatment.
