NCT02293265
This will be a non-drug interventional cross-sectional study, where the screening visit and study visit can occur on the same day. Investigational product will not be administered. Approximately 790 subjects with severe asthma will be screened to achieve a total of at least 750 evaluable study subjects. The study will not include a run-in or follow-up period. This study will provide a more reliable description of the severe asthma patient landscape with respect to the potential eligibility for treatment with mepolizumab, omalizumab, and reslizumab. This study aims to estimate the potential overlap of patients eligible for treatment with mepolizumab and those eligible for treatment with omalizumab and/or reslizumab. Additionally, the current study will also ascertain and describe reslizumab eligibility with respect to both mepolizumab and omalizumab, in the severe asthma patient population.
NCT01304914
In this study, the investigator will be approaching pregnant women to undertake 2 years of weekly respiratory and nappy specimen collection from their healthy new born infant. These specimens will be mailed to the Queensland Paediatric Infectious Diseases (Qpid) Laboratory where they will be stored and batched tested for viruses and bacteria. As well as this, parents will keep a simple daily symptom diary for their child, allowing us to match detection of viruses and bacteria to periods when the study child did or did not have symptoms. This will help our understanding of what finding these viruses and bacteria in specimens from children really means.
NCT01525381
Our study will enroll 644 randomly-selected Canadians who have been diagnosed with asthma by a physician within the previous five years. It will be determined what diagnostic tests were initially performed to make this diagnosis. Participants will undergo lung function testing over 6-8 weeks to determine their respiratory status and to confirm they have asthma. Participants may be followed up to one year depending on their test results.
NCT02588963
The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of Primary and Secondary Prevention of Respiratory Infections in children up to 3 years-old attending daycare.
NCT02720809
Health2016 is a general population cross-sectional study aimed at completing af monitoring program for monitoring chronic disease and risk factors in the period 2006 to 2016. Similar studies have been performed in 2006, 2010, and 2013.
NCT02243189
The purpose of this study is to investigate the cytokine levels in nasal lavage and gene expression in nasal scraping following a single nasal dose of JNJ-43260295 in healthy participants, and in atopic mild to mild-persistent asthmatic (breathing disorder in which there is wheezing and difficulty in breathing) participants with and without nasal allergen challenge prior to dosing.
NCT01018550
The primary objective is to determine if AMG 853 is effective compared with placebo as measured by change in Asthma Control Questionnaire (ACQ) composite symptoms scores from baseline to week 12.
NCT02327910
Three hundred aged(age\>65y) patients were randomized to Commom group(C group). Qualitative TOF monitoring (TOF group). Qualitative TOF and transcutaneous partial pressure of carbon dioxide monitoring(Unite group). Anesthetic management was standardized in all subjects .The patients of C group were extubated when standard criteria were met; T group patients had a TOF ratio of greater than 0.90 as an additional extubation criterion;and U group patiens were extubated when TOF ratio is greater than 0.90 and meanwhile transcutaneous partial pressure of carbon dioxide recovered to preoperative ±5mmHg .All the patients were transport to the PACU after extubation.Compare the adverse respiratory events at the moment of extubation, on the arrival of PACU, at 30min and 60min moment in the PACU respectively.
NCT00810186
Background: Patients that suffer from respiratory failure and need mechanical ventilation are at risk of further deterioration due to complications induced by progression of lung disease or the mechanical ventilation. The complications usually develop in a progressive manner, but are currently detected relatively late, when there is already severe and life threatening deterioration in patient oxygenation and sometimes irreversible damages. Objective:To measure chest wall dynamics, derived from sensors placed on the chest and abdomen. Methods: The system comprises of patches attached to the chest wall and upper abdomen that include mechanical sensors that measure the mechanics of lung inflation and deflation.
NCT01317563
This project will assess the effectiveness of antioxidant supplementation with common vitamins A, C, E and selenium in controlling asthma symptoms among lean and obese asthmatics. This project may improve our ability to treat asthma and our understanding of the link between nutritional antioxidants and asthma.
NCT02421614
This study aimed to investigate the effect of enteral feeding's macronutrient composition on inflammatory mediators, oxidative stress and outcomes in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) patients with acute respiratory failure. In this double-blind randomized control trial, 42 patients of both sexes and diagnosed with acute respiratory failure in ICU that receive enteral feeding, will be randomly assigned to three groups of 14 each. First Intervention group; high-protein low-carbohydrate diet with high olive oil, the second intervention group; high-protein low-carbohydrate diet with high sunflower oil and control; high-protein kitchen formula. Intravenous levels of uric acid, high sensitive C-Reactive Protein (hs-CRP), Interleukin 6 (IL-6) and Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC) measured at days 0 and 10. As well as, organ failure, duration of ventilation, length of ICU stay and mortality rates will be evaluated.
NCT01363102
The investigators hypothesize that by applying a validated algorithm to accomplish early mobilization in surgical intensive care unit (ICU) patients, these patients will achieve a higher level of mobility which translates to shorter ICU length of stay and improved functional status at discharge. Additionally, the investigators hypothesize that genetic polymorphisms related to muscle strength and sleep will also explain some variance in these outcome variables.
NCT00005755
To examine the occupations, industries and exposures in the work-place which were associated with a high risk for asthma and other adverse respiratory health effects, with particular emphasis on specific exposures of predominantly female occupations (irritants, detergents and other asthmagens), and of other high risk major occupations which had not been adequately examined.
NCT02473796
Melghat is poorly developed tribal area in India with very high child mortality \& malnutrition prevalence (grossly inadequate medical facilities). Important health problems. Malnutrition , Pneumonia, Tuberculosis, Anaemia, Malaria, Diarrhoea, Premature and L. B. W. babies, Neonatal sepsis, Feeding problem, Birth asphyxia. The investigators developed a Home Based Child Care (HBCC) model to reduce neonatal mortality rate (NMR), infant mortality rate (IMR), under 5 mortality rate (U5MR) and severe malnutrition(SM) in this region. Melghat. Need of project : Melghat is known for highest U5MR in Maharashtra. Overall aims and importance of the research:. The results obtained in this area will be applicable for reducing children mortality and malnutrition in other parts of Melghat and all other tribal areas of India. Methodology: RCT-Home based child care (HBCC) by trained village health workers .(ARI, Diarrhoea, Malaria clinically \& Neonatal care) in 19 villages. Strengthening of existing government ICDS and health system. Melghat. Need of project : Melghat is known for highest U5MR in Maharashtra. Overall aims and importance of the research:. The results obtained in this area will be applicable for reducing children mortality and malnutrition in other parts of Melghat and all other tribal areas of India.
