The hypothesis is that physical activity is associated with a reduced risk of complications and death after surgery. Self-reporting of physical activity is prone to be unreliable. In order to obtain a better picture of patients' physical activity, we intend to investigate the association between the average number of steps and postoperative outcomes. Many other objective measures of physical activity are costly and time-consuming to perform; for example, exercise tests, extensive sampling, and longer questionnaires. The primary research question is: Do patients with a higher degree of physical activity, measured as the average number of steps recorded on the patient's mobile phone, have a reduced risk of peri/postoperative complications and death, measured as Days At Home alive at 30 days (DAH30)? Secondary research questions include: Is physical activity, measured as the average number of steps recorded on the patient's mobile phone, linearly linked to DAH30? Is physical activity, measured as the average number of steps recorded on the patient's mobile phone, associated with specific peri/postoperative organ impact, such as lung, heart, cerebral, infection, or kidney complications? Is physical activity, measured as the average number of steps recorded on the patient's mobile phone, also linked to long-term outcomes one year after surgery? Is physical activity, measured as the average number of steps recorded on the patient's mobile phone, solely associated with DAH30 and organ complications for specific patient groups in terms of age, comorbidities, and/or type of surgery?

Over 300 million surgeries are performed globally every year. Complications after surgery - infections, cardiovascular conditions, postoperative pulmonary complications and renal impairment - affect survival and quality of life. Age and co-morbidity are unmodifiable factors, contributing to increased risk of these perioperative complications. However, a modifiable risk factor is physical activity. This study aims to test if self reported physical activity is associated to lower risk of perioperative morbidity and mortality.

While DOACs are increasing in use in the EGS patient population, the risk of bleeding and the reversal of these agents to reduce hemorrhage is still evolving. Given the paucity of data regarding the impact of DOACs in this patient population, it becomes empiric to identify bleeding patterns and outcomes in the EGS population taking DOACs. We hypothesize that patients taking a DOAC will have a higher bleeding incidence and need for an unplanned intervention secondary to hemorrhage in EGS patients undergoing an urgent or emergent operation when compared to patients taking warfarin and antiplatelets.

In clinical anesthesia, surgical stimulation and stress can affect patient hemodynamic stability, used in intraoperative vascular active drug is inevitable, they shrink or dilate blood vessels, speed up or slow down the heart rate, makes the ventricular preload and corresponding changes in the SV. Now, there is a study on SVV and PPV in patients with hypertension, but there are few reports on the effect of blood pressure drugs on the changes in patients' threshold.

Nursing handovers are performed 2-3 times a day for each patient, with an approximate average of 2 million nursing deliveries per year in a hospital of medium size. Nursing handovers are considered essential for the continuity and safety of care. If the relevant clinical information is not shared in a precise and timely manner, it may worsen the patients' outcomes with an increase in adverse events, delays or inappropriate treatment until the omission of procedures. The modality of nursing delivery presents, therefore, a gap of vulnerability where vital information could not be considered and systematically shared. Patients should be involved in their care to promote a patient-centred approach. The involvement of patients in handovers is effective compared to other delivery methods. To date, however, the best mode to deliver handovers was still unclear due to a systematic lack of studies to identify the best practice of nursing handovers. The studies in the literature lack of sound methodologies due to not randomized designs. Thus an intervention to improve quality of handovers and to implement bedside handovers in surgical wards will be performed. The following hypotheses were made: * The introduction of nursing bedside handovers will improve the quality of the information exchanged. * The educational intervention training intervention will positively modify the nursing handovers. * There is a relationship between the qualitative level of nursing handovers and working status (expert vs novice) of the nurses. * There is a relationship between the qualitative level of nursing handovers and the patients' characteristics.

General anaesthesia (GA) is, according to many definitions, the greatest gift presented to the medical art (S. B. Nuland). One of the aims of GA is to achieve the optimal depth of anaesthesia and rapid emergence from general anaesthesia. In order to achieve this goal, it is necessary to observe the clinical condition of the patient, and at the same time monitor the patient's overall condition. With the currently available options of GA management (e.g. use of intravenous anaesthetics, strong analgesics and modern volatile anaesthetics, in combination with various methods of topical anaesthesia) the importance of methods measuring the depth of GA increases. The depth of GA may be defined as a continuous progressive decreasing of the central nervous system, together with a decreased reactivity to stimuli. In the course of GA, perioperative awareness is detected in 0.1-0.2% of cases. Awakening during a surgical procedure may result in significant psychological complications (e.g. post-traumatic stress disorder), and the patient may suffer from a serious long-time disorder.

Training on simulated models in a surgical skills laboratory has been shown to improve technical performance in the operating room. Currently described simulation-based curricula consist of trainees practicing the same tasks until expert proficiency is reached. It has yet to be investigated whether individualized deliberate practice, where curricula tasks vary depending on prior levels of technical proficiency, would translate to the operating room. This randomized controlled trial effectively demonstrates that deliberate practice on a virtual reality simulator results in an improvement in technical skills in a real clinical situation. This enhances the feasibility of implementing simulation-based curricula into residency training programs, and consequently has the potential to improve patient safety.

Study hypothesis: The Cardiotronic ICON non-invasive cardiac output monitor gives accurate information when placed on a patient's Right or Left side. Summary: To simultaneously compare physiologic data collected from two non-invasive cardiac output monitors placed bilaterally on pediatric patients undergoing general anesthesia. The FDA approved Cardiotronic ICON non-invasive cardiac output monitor has been validated by the manufacturer in pediatric and adult patients with leads placed on the left side. However, sometimes the surgical site and/or patient position precludes placement of the monitor leads on the left side. In such situations it would be useful to know whether placement of the monitor's leads on a patient's right side gives accurate cardiac output data. We will prospectively collect, and compare, simultaneous physiologic data for all enrolled children using two monitors, one on the patient's right side and one on the patient's left side.
