NCT00150410
* Whether a combination of three therapies - metformin and a sulfonylurea plus Exubera, an investigational drug, controls your diabetes at least as much as a triple combination therapy of metformin and a sulfonylurea plus Avandia, a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved drug. * Whether a combination of two therapies - metformin plus Exubera controls your diabetes at least as much as a as a triple combination therapy of metformin and a sulfonylurea plus Avandia.
NCT00081380
The purpose of this study is to determine whether quetiapine when used as adjunct to lithium or divalproex is safe and effective in the maintenance treatment of adult patients with Bipolar I Disorder. The study consists of enrollment and 2 phases, the Open-label treatment Phase and the Randomized treatment Phase. PLEASE NOTE: Seroquel SR and Seroquel XR refer to the same formulation. The SR designation was changed to XR after consultation with FDA.
NCT00018681
This study investigates distribution and regulation of bile acid transport in the human intestine.
NCT00011739
Low back pain is a frequent cause of disability and a common reason for outpatient care in veterans. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the lower back often reveals abnormalities, which may be used to justify expensive and invasive therapy, such as surgery. Yet the link between MRI abnormalities and the risk of developing clinically significant back pain is far from clear. This longitudinal study will determine the prevalence and incidence of MRI abnormalities among veterans and determine the extent to which specific MRI abnormalities predict future development of back pain. The result should help clinicians use MR imaging more efficiently, and they may ultimately help reduce the frequency of unnecessary back surgery.
NCT00495313
To compare the safety and efficacy of two treatment regimens: 1) COL-101 and metronidazole gel 1%; 2) Doxycycline hyclate 100 mg and metronidazole gel 1%
NCT00090376
In this phase II study, an investigative (not approved by the FDA) drug called GPI 1485 is being assessed to see if it can help preserve erectile function after prostatectomy.
NCT00231049
This is a randomized, multi-center, sequential, dose-escalating study of three dose cohorts of AG-707. Individuals who meet all of the inclusion and exclusion criteria for eligibility will be randomized to receive either AG-707 (at the 80 µg dose), AG-707 with QS-21 (at the 80 µg dose), placebo, or QS-21. Each patient will be monitored for safety as specified in the protocol.
NCT00194597
Viagra is a potent 5-PDE inhibitor that causes vasodilation in the penis and, therefore, erection in men with erectile dysfunction. Our hypothesis is that Viagra may improve the symptoms of men with Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome based on the following assumptions: Chronic Pelvic Pelvic Syndrome and Interstitial Cystitis involve poorly understood central and peripheral pain sensitization such as are seen in Chronic Sympathetic Dystrophy, also called Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome. This pain may be caused by constricted blood vessels resulting from past stress, injury or trauma Viagra will dilate sympathetically constricted vessels and improve pelvic blood flow in the same manner it does in men with erectile dysfunction. Since men with Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome often complain of sexual dysfunction; improving sexual function and, therefore, quality of life may improve overall well being and perception of pain.
NCT00000751
To evaluate the effect of anti-HIV immune serum globulin (HIVIG) versus immune globulin (IVIG) administered during pregnancy and to the newborn, in combination with zidovudine (AZT) administered intrapartum and to the newborn, on incidence of HIV infection in infants born to HIV-infected women who received AZT during pregnancy for medical indications. Vertical transmission of HIV from mother to child may occur before, during, or after parturition (via breast-feeding). It is believed that therapy administered both during pregnancy and intrapartum may help prevent vertical transmission. Additionally, adjunctive short-term antiretroviral therapy for the newborn, following the intensive viral exposure presumed to occur at birth, may be necessary.
NCT00036283
Reduction in size and number of oral premalignant lesions
NCT00717262
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety, activity and pharmacokinetics of a new investigational drug (HQK-1001) in healthy human volunteers. This study will also evaluate if there are differences in these parameters when HQK-1001 is administered in a fed versus a fasted state.
NCT00088088
This study is for patients who have Stage IIIb or Stage IV NSCLC and have never had chemotherapy before for their disease. The first phase of the study recently completed and for the second phase of the study patients are randomly assigned to receive either paclitaxel and carboplatin or paclitaxel and carboplatin and study drug (STA 4783). Treatment will be every 3 weeks for 6 cycles.
NCT00528905
The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that AZD3480 improves cognition in patients with stable schizophrenia who are being treated with an atypical antipsychotic and who are active cigarette smokers, to assess the safety and tolerability of AZD3480 and to define the optimal dose(s) to be used in future trials.
NCT00269230
People who have abnormal heart beats, or whose heart does not beat on its own, may need an electronic device called a pacemaker or a defibrillator. Furthermore, people whose hearts have a reduced pumping ability may need a device are called cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) device. A CRT device is implanted surgically just under the skin in the upper chest area. This device then helps the heart beat at a regular rhythm by sending electrical signals (pacing) directly to the heart tissue through flexible wires called leads. The device may also be able to stop the heart from beating too fast. Three leads are implanted into the chambers of your heart. Two of the leads will be placed on the right side of your heart. The third lead is placed on the left side of your heart and is the lead being studied. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the Attain StarFixTM Model 4195 Left Ventricular (LV) Lead. This particular model lead has special characteristics that may help to better keep it in position once it is implanted into the left ventricle. It is also "steroid-eluting" which means that over time it slowly releases a small amount of medication into the heart tissue to help prevent too much swelling around the area it is implanted.
NCT00116610
This is a Phase II research study that is designed for patients who have small cell lung cancer (SCLC) that is no longer responding to treatment. Patients will receive picoplatin, a new platinum-based agent that is currently under investigation, in 21-day cycles.
NCT00168480
This is a three year open-label study in subjects with axillary hyperhidrosis.
NCT00275769
This study compares the pacemaker's automatic pacing threshold measurements to the manual measurements conducted by a health care provider.
NCT00279981
The purpose of this study is to look at the heart rate and rhythm information collected daily in Medtronic implantable pulse generators (IPG), implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD) and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) devices. The study will gather this information from many patients to see if heart rate or rhythm data can predict the risk of a patient having a medical condition such as stroke.
NCT00267930
This study is designed to evaluate the safety, tolerability and preliminary efficacy of vernakalant (oral) in subjects with sustained atrial fibrillation of greater than 72 hours and less than 6 months duration
NCT00430898
The purpose of this study is to assess the safety, effectiveness and pharmacokinetics of two levels of intravenous basiliximab in ulcerative colitis, compared to placebo.
