This will be a Phase II, multicenter, randomized, double blind, placebo controlled, study of six 28-day treatment cycles for patients with locally advanced, unresectable, or metastatic pancreatic cancer. The study will be conducted at approximately 55 sites in the North American, Europe, and South America. Approximately 153 subjects will be enrolled in a randomization (ratio 2:1).

The purpose of this study is to determine if hypertonic saline with and without dextran can improve neurologic outcomes in victims of severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). Injury and lost blood from trauma can cause your body to go into shock (low blood pressure related to blood loss). This decreased blood flow can lead to organ damage. In order to restore the blood pressure and blood flow, the medics give fluids into the patients' veins as soon as possible. This is called "resuscitation". The fluid most commonly used is "isotonic" or one that is the same salt concentration as the blood. The investigators are trying to determine if infusing a "hypertonic" fluid or one more concentrated than the blood can increase the blood pressure and restore blood flow more efficiently. The hypertonic fluids they are using are called hypertonic saline with dextran (HSD) and hypertonic saline (no dextran). Hypertonic saline is a salt solution that is slightly more concentrated than blood. Dextran is a sugar solution.

This study will compare the ability of fosamprenavir 700 mg with ritonavir 100 mg twice a day or lopinavir 400 mg with ritonavir 100 mg twice a day both combined with a fixed dose combination tablet of abacavir 600 mg and lamivudine 300 mg once a day to suppress virus levels of HIV to less than 400 copies/mL of blood. In addition we will study the safety and tolerability of these compounds over the 48 week study period in patients naive to anti-HIV therapy.

This retrospective study conducted in Canada and the US involves a chart review to assess the safety of oseltamivir (Tamiflu®) compared to alternate antiviral therapy, amantidine or rimantidine, administered to children less than 12 months of age with diagnosed or suspected influenza. The objectives are to describe the frequency of neurological and all other adverse events possibly related to administration of these antivirals in these infants. Investigators will also compare frequency of adverse events at various doses of oseltamivir in these children. Critical endpoints to be collected include frequency and severity of adverse events, particularly those relating to central nervous system complications. A sub-investigator will travel to each of the participating sites to collect data related to each infant's health prior to becoming ill, health status at time of influenza diagnosis, dosing regimen, reported neurological events post-dosing, and all reported adverse events post-dosing.

This substudy of TBTC Studies 27 and 28 compares 1) the pharmacokinetics of moxifloxacin alone versus moxifloxacin administered with rifampin in healthy volunteers and 2) the pharmacokinetics of moxifloxacin among patients with tuberculosis being treated with multidrug therapy (isoniazid or ethambutol, rifampin, and pyrazinamide) to those of healthy volunteers receiving moxifloxacin plus rifampin. It also evaluates the association between polymorphisms of MDR1 genotype (P-glycoprotein) and rifampin pharmacokinetic parameters, the effect of polymorphisms of MDR1 genotype and/or rifampin pharmacokinetics on isoniazid pharmacokinetic parameters adjusted for N-acetyltransferase genotype (NAT2), and determines by multivariate regression analyses the associations between moxifloxacin or rifampin pharmacokinetic parameters and markers of tuberculosis disease severity including the covariates of two-month culture positivity, cavitary lung disease, Body Mass Index, weight, duration of study treatment prior to PK, co-morbidities and C-reactive protein. Healthy volunteers and TB patients receive frequent scheduled blood draws during a 24 hour period after ingesting a dose of TB drugs.

A 1-year randomized Phase III core trial (NCT00061750) using deferoxamine as the comparator was conducted to investigate the efficacy of deferasirox in regularly transfused patients with β-thalassemia 2 years of age and older. Patients who successfully completed this main trial may continue in this extension trial to receive chelation therapy with deferasirox for an additional 4 years. The objective of this study is to assess the efficacy and long-term safety of deferasirox in regularly transfused patients with β-thalassemia 2 years of age and older.
