NCT00003587
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Randomized phase II trial to study the effectiveness of two different combination chemotherapy regimens in treating patients who have stage IIIB or stage IV non-small cell lung cancer
NCT00457821
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and tolerability of ivacaftor in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) who were aged 18 years or older and have a G551D mutation in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene. Ivacaftor is a potent and selective CFTR potentiator of wild-type, G551D, F508del, and R117H forms of human CFTR protein. Potentiators are pharmacological agents that increase the chloride ion transport properties of the channel in the presence of cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinase A (PKA) activation.
NCT01145755
This is a 6-week study treatment to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of AZD2066 in patients with major depressive disorder.
NCT00063635
The purpose of this study is to determine if therapeutic modification of insulin resistance or oxidative stress leads to improvement in serum or histologic indicators of liver injury or quality of life.
NCT00164372
The purpose of this study is to test whether a six-session behavioral intervention for HIV and HCV seronegative injection drug users is effective in reducing sexual and injection risk behaviors that could lead to primary HIV and HCV infection.
NCT00651118
The purpose of this study is to determine if two allergy medications (azelastine and fluticasone) are more effective than placebo or either medication alone (azelastine or fluticasone)
NCT00991081
The major purpose of this exploratory developmental study will be to develop a patient-centered and feasible protocol for communicating genetic data as it relates to drug efficacy for smoking cessation inpatients receiving medication that is matched to individual genotypes associated with increased efficacy for bupropion or nicotine replacement therapy.
NCT01068535
The purpose of this study is to compare the vascular permeability of blood vessel walls (of the carotid artery) in pre-menopausal women who have metabolic syndrome (syndrome of having at least 3/5 following features- increased abdominal fat, low good cholesterol (HDL-C), elevated fasting blood fats (triglycerides), elevated blood pressure, an elevated fasting glucose) versus those women who are normal weight and with normal cholesterol, blood fats, blood pressure, and blood sugar. We are using a novel technology to measure vascular permeability known as dynamic contrast enhancement magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI). The primary variable is ktrans ratio which is a mathematically derived quantity obtained from DCE-MRI. We are trying to identify novel markers of early atherosclerosis in young women.
NCT00494832
The purposes of this study are: 1. To evaluate the safety and efficacy of Dexmedetomidine as an adjunct for anesthesia during spine surgery and 2. To investigate the influence of Dexmedetomidine on the evoked potentials.
NCT00003293
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. It is not yet known whether SU-101 is more effective than procarbazine in treating patients with glioblastoma multiforme. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of SU-101 with that of procarbazine in treating patients with glioblastoma multiforme that has recurred.
NCT00366834
This is a Phase III trial designed to demonstrate that casopitant (GW679769) plus dexamethasone and ondansetron is more effective in the prevention of vomiting than dexamethasone and ondansetron alone following the administration of moderately emetogenic chemotherapy.
NCT00463606
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of ABT-335 and rosuvastatin calcium combination therapy to monotherapy in subjects with dyslipidemia.
NCT00990964
The purpose of the study is to assess lead implant success and complication rate using the Medtronic Attain Family of left-heart leads and delivery catheters.
NCT00327340
This study is for patients with cancer of the prostate gland that has metastasized or spread outside the prostate to other parts of the body. Patients have already been treated with a drug called docetaxel or Taxotere® (with or without the addition of a steroid called prednisone) some time in the recent past. They either did not respond to this therapy or responded to this therapy, but now the cancer is progressing (growing larger or has spread to other areas of the body). Custirsen (OGX-011) is an experimental drug that has been shown to increase the effectiveness of chemotherapy in several kinds of tumors, including prostate cancer. Both docetaxel and mitoxantrone have anticancer activity in prostate and are approved by Health Canada and the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of patients with prostate cancer.
NCT00506415
The purpose of this study was to support the optimal use of rivastigmine patch in long-term treatment of Alzheimer's Disease in patients demonstrating functional and cognitive decline at the target maintenance dose of rivastigmine patch 10 cm\^2.
NCT00604214
The purpose of this placebo-controlled study is to determine if drotrecogin alfa (activated) treatment provides significant mortality reduction improvement in patients with septic shock compared with placebo treatment in patients receiving the current standard of care for septic shock. This study will also assess the effectiveness of drotrecogin alfa (activated) in reducing 28-day mortality in patients with septic shock and concomitant severe protein C deficiency.
NCT01271959
The purpose of this research study is to collect information from patient's medical records that had a test called ChemoFx® ordered and to understand how doctors may have used the results of the ChemoFx® to treat patients with cancer.
NCT01032837
This randomized, double-blind, multi-center study of Tamiflu (Oseltamivir) will evaluate the efficacy against viral activity, the effectiveness in resolving the disease symptoms, and the safety and tolerability in patients with influenza. Patients with (H1N1) 2009 influenza strain or influenza A are eligible for this study. Patients will be randomized to one of four treatment regimens. Patients will receive oral doses of either 75 mg (adults) or 150 mg (adults) of study drug twice daily for 5 or 10 consecutive days. The dose will be body weight-adjusted for pediatric patients.
NCT01241331
The purpose of this study is to compare the safety and efficacy of formulation BLI1100 to its vehicle in the treatment of moderate-severe acne vulgaris.
NCT00833248
The purpose of this phase 3B trial was to see how well a new trial drug (degarelix) works in terms of reducing the size of the prostate volume in prostate cancer patients who were scheduled to undergo subsequent radiotherapy for treatment of their prostate cancer. Prior to receiving radiotherapy, it is recommended that patients with intermediate to high risk prostate cancer are pre-treated with hormone therapy (so-called neoadjuvant therapy) which is known to reduce the size of the prostate and thereby decrease the required radiation field and enable a more safe and effective treatment. In this trial, participants were randomly selected (like flipping a coin) to receive either degarelix given alone or a standard hormone therapy (combination of goserelin and bicalutamide. The treatment was given for three months and the prostate size was measured by ultra sound at the beginning and at the end of the trial. The participants were required to come to the clinic for 5 or 6 visits during the three months.
