NCT00627640
Parkinson's Disease is a major neurodegenerative disorder in which there is a progressive loss of dopamine-containing neurons. The understanding that PD is a syndrome of dopamine (DA) deficiency led to the introduction in the clinical practice of L-dopa, a precursor of DA that crosses the blood brain barrier, and also to the use of selective inhibitors of MAO-B, the major DA metabolising enzyme in man. Safinamide is an inhibitor of MAO-B. This is a phase III trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of safinamide (50 and 100 mg p.o. q.a.m.) compared to placebo as add-on therapy to a stable dose to levodopa in subjects with advance idiopathic Parkinson's Disease. The principal efficacy measure is the increase in mean daily "on" time during the 18-hr diary recording period.
NCT00016029
RATIONALE: Screening tests may help doctors detect cancer cells early and plan more effective treatment for cancer. New diagnostic procedures such as computed tomographic colonography may provide a less invasive method of identifying patients who have colon cancer. PURPOSE: Diagnostic and screening trial to compare the effectiveness of barium enema, computed tomographic colonography, and colonoscopy in detecting of colon cancer.
NCT00003368
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Irinotecan may be effective in treating patients with abnormal liver or kidney function or who have received radiation therapy. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of irinotecan in treating patients with solid tumors or lymphoma who have abnormal liver or kidney function or who have had previous radiation therapy to the pelvis.
NCT00198510
The purpose of this study is to determine if intravitreal injection of Vitrase (ovine hyaluronidase) clears vitreous hemorrhage
NCT00483756
A new immunosuppressive drug, based on the inhibition of an important enzyme in the immune system called JAK3, is being developed by Pfizer to prevent transplant rejection. In this research study, a JAK3 inhibitor or cyclosporine will be given to new kidney transplant patients for 12 months. Patients will be assigned to one of three treatment groups after receiving a kidney transplant. Two of the treatment groups will receive 2 different dosing regimens of the JAK3 inhibitor that will be taken by mouth. The third treatment group will be a standard-of-care control arm. Patients will continue to take the assigned study medication for 12 months as well as other standard transplant medications such as prednisone.
NCT01554020
This prospective international clinical trial is a two-arm, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, multicenter study. 112 prediabetic subjects will be randomized to Blood Sugar Take Care or placebo. Randomization will be stratified by gender. The intervention period is 12 weeks. The primary outcome is fasting glucose levels.
NCT00815724
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) has established guidelines for treating people with asthma. This study will evaluate the effectiveness of a distance learning program that aims to educate doctors on these guidelines, specifically the use of inhaled corticosteroids to treat asthma in pediatric patients.
NCT00792597
The purpose of this study is to compare the hemoglobin results obtained with 1) the HemoCue™, 2) the Masimo SpHb™, and 3) the UCSF Clinical Laboratory. The goal is to determine if these three values differ from each other during various levels of blood loss in the clinical care of patients for spine revision and hip revision surgery.
NCT00097578
This is an observational study designed to follow patients with metastatic or locally advanced and unresectable colorectal cancer who are receiving Avastin in combination with chemotherapy and whose cancer has been either previously untreated or treated \<=4 months prior to enrollment.
NCT00475852
The purpose of this study is to find out if nesiritide (a human B-type natriuretic peptide/hBNP) as compared to placebo, plus the usual treatment for acute decompensated heart failure, helps to improve breathing difficulties, reduce heart failure readmissions to hospitals, and helps patients live longer.
NCT01465282
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of 3 dose strengths of CT327 ointment (0.05%, 0.1% and 0.05% w/w) compared to a placebo, when applied twice daily for up to 8 weeks, to the psoriatic plaques of patients with psoriasis vulgaris.
NCT00816907
This study will test the usefulness of the medication metformin in treating people with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder who are overweight and also taking antipsychotic medications.
NCT01416454
The purpose of the study is to assess potential age-related differences on coagulation profile of patients undergoing Cesarean Section, using thromboelastography (TEG). The investigators will compare coagulation data collected from the study to assess potential differences in coagulation parameters for the following age groups: (i) women less than 35 yrs (ii) women 35 yrs or older.

This is a second-line study.
NCT00002742
RATIONALE: Antifungal therapy with liposomal nystatin may reduce fever and neutropenia in patients undergoing treatment for hematologic cancer. It is not yet known whether liposomal nystatin is more effective than standard amphotericin B in treating patients with fever and neutropenia who are receiving chemotherapy for hematologic cancer or bone marrow transplantation for leukemia. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to study the effectiveness of liposomal nystatin compared with standard amphotericin B to treat fever and neutropenia in patients receiving chemotherapy for hematologic cancer or bone marrow transplantation for leukemia.
