NCT00001082
To evaluate the safety and efficacy of adefovir dipivoxil in prolonging survival of patients with advanced HIV disease. In CMV prophylaxis substudy: To evaluate the efficacy of adefovir dipivoxil in preventing the development of CMV end-organ disease in patients with advanced HIV coinfected with CMV. The optimal treatment for HIV infection and the prevention of CMV disease has not been identified. Currently available antiretroviral therapies are hampered by both significant toxicities and the development of resistance. In addition, agents for preventing CMV disease, such as oral ganciclovir, are complicated by poor bioavailability and decreased compliance secondary to toxicities. Moreover, discordant results have been reported regarding the effectiveness of oral ganciclovir for preventing CMV disease. There is a need for newer agents with anti-HIV and anti-herpesvirus activity that have good pharmacokinetic and safety profiles and that will be well tolerated by patients. Adefovir dipivoxil is an oral pro-drug of PMEA, a nucleoside analog with activity against a broad spectrum of retroviruses and herpesviruses, including important human pathogens, such as HIV-1, HIV-2 and CMV. Due to its anti-HIV and anti-herpesvirus activity, adefovir dipivoxil may be able to decrease the incidence of opportunistic herpesvirus infections and prolong survival in patients with advanced HIV infection.
NCT01331109
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the long-term safety and efficacy of milnacipran in pediatric patients aged 13 to 17 years with primary fibromyalgia.
NCT00005922
This study uses the psychological principle known as classical conditioning to try to improve the standard treatment of psoriasis. Classical conditioning is a process of behavioral modification in which a person learns to connect a certain response-in this case, improvement of psoriasis-with a new action, or stimulus-in this case, application of an inactive cream. The goal of this study is to show that people with psoriasis who are maintained on corticosteroid cream part of the time and an inactive (placebo) cream at other times show a lower incidence of relapse and a reduced severity of psoriasis that patients treated with that same (reduced) amount of medication administered all the time.
NCT01163721
This study enrolled participants with inadequately controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) despite non-insulin antidiabetic therapy in addition to diet and exercise, and would have benefited from additional control of blood glucose levels. The study assessed the metabolic effects of ranolazine, including its effect in lowering glycosylated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), and lowering glucose while fasting, and following a meal (postprandial). Participants were randomized in a 1:1 ratio to receive ranolazine or placebo, and were stratified by HbA1c ≤ 7.5% or \> 7.5%. Enrollment was to include no more than two-thirds of participants with baseline HbA1c ≤ 7.5%. Other than glucose values, efficacy endpoint results remained blinded during the study; for safety purposes, the investigator was to be alerted of severe hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia. Participants were instructed to maintain logs of their physical activity/exercise (Subject Activity Assessment) and study drug dosing (Dosing Log).
NCT00282568
A study to assess the pharmacokinetics, safety and effectiveness of tacrolimus in stable kidney transplant patients converted from a Prograf® based immunosuppression regimen to a modified release tacrolimus based immunosuppression regimen.
NCT01102283
The objective of this registry is to compile clinical data on the use of the Evolution® Colonic Stent System for the palliative treatment of colonic obstruction or strictures caused by malignant neoplasms and to relieve acute large bowel obstruction prior to colectomy in patients with malignant strictures.
NCT01481077
The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of plug placement on the efficacy, safety and duration of effect of the L-PPDS (latanoprost punctal plug delivery system).
NCT01100619
The primary objective of this clinical study is to determine whether the inhibition of cytochrome P450 (CYP) isozyme CYP2C8 by XL184 observed in in vitro preclinical studies translates into the potential for clinically significant drug-drug interactions in humans. The study will measure the effect of once daily dosing of XL184 on the pharmacokinetics (PK) of rosiglitazone. The PK of XL184 when combined with rosiglitazone will be evaluated as well. A specific objective of this study is to determine whether the interaction between XL184 and a drug such as rosiglitazone is sufficiently large enough to necessitate a dosage adjustment when used in combination with XL184, or whether the interaction would require additional therapeutic monitoring. Rosiglitazone, commonly known as Avandia, is a prescription medicine approved by the FDA used to treat adults with Type 2 (adult-onset or non-insulin dependent) diabetes mellitus (high blood sugar). In this study, subjects will only take 2 doses of rosiglitazone. There is no intention of therapy as a result of taking rosiglitazone in this study.
NCT00636454
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the leading cause of disability in the United States. Studies have shown that training patients to cope with pain improves physical and social functioning, increases self-efficacy, and reduces psychological distress. However, this type of training is not available to the vast majority of OA patients. This study will determine the effectiveness of a training program for coping with pain that will be administered in community medical practices. A THIRD ARM OF THE TRIAL WAS FUNDED 09/09. TREATED PATIENTS WILL BE RANDOMIZED TO (1)A 4-MONTH COMPUTER-DRIVEN TELEPHONE PROGRAM TO ENHANCE MAINTANENCE OF TREATMENT GAINS OR (2)USUAL CARE. THIS ARM WILL ONLY BE CONDUCTED AT THE STONY BROOK SITE.
NCT01737333
