NCT00398190
The purpose of this project is to determine if a 3-session anti-smoking media literacy based intervention is more effective that a standard 3-session anti-smoking media literacy intervention at changing students' intention to smoke, actual smoking behavior, attitudes and norms regarding smoking, and level of media literacy.
NCT00595218
Limited data exists for the cancer patients' preferences on their patient-doctor interaction with their radiation oncologist. These physicians have the opportunity to develop intimate relationships with their patients since these patients typically require daily radiation treatments anywhere from one to seven weeks. Thus, by having a greater understanding of the individual patient preferences, the radiation oncologists will be able to better serve their patients leading to improved patient satisfaction with their physician and healthier outlook on life. This is the premise and the hypothesis of this study.
NCT01500356
The primary aim of this study is to examine the effect of the consensus public health recommended level of physical activity \[moderate physical activity (MOD-PA) = 150 min/wk\] versus a higher dose of physical activity \[high physical activity (HIGH-PA) = 250 min/wk\] in the context of a comprehensive behavioral weight loss program that a includes a reduction in energy intake measures of cardiovascular function using cardiac MRI and biomarkers of vascular disease risk. Each of these exercise doses will be compared independently to a Diet Only group intervention on the proposed primary and secondary outcomes, with MOD-PA also compared to HIGH-PA. This study involves the recruitment of 390 overweight and obese adults who will be randomly assigned to one of the above conditions (Diet Only, MOD-PA, HIGH-PA) for a period of 12 months. The primary outcome is LVM measured by cardiac MRI. Secondary outcomes include additional cardiac MRI measures (aortic pulse wave velocity, end diastolic volume, aortic distensibility), inflammatory markers (CRP and TNFα) and selected adipocytokines (adiponectin) as biomarkers of risk related to vascular outcomes, body weight, body composition, and cardiorespiratory fitness, and traditional CVD risk factors (lipids, glucose, insulin, blood pressure). Additional secondary analyses will allow for examination of the effects of physical activity independent of weight change on the primary and secondary outcomes.
NCT00334828
The purpose of this study is to compare eritoran tetrasodium and placebo in patients with severe sepsis and to demonstrate a reduction of mortality from all causes.
NCT01371708
This is a 6-month, open-label, flexible-dose study evaluating Desvenlafaxine Succinate Sustained-Release (DVS SR) in the Treatment of Child and Adolescent Outpatients with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).
NCT00535782
This 2 arm study will investigate the effects of tocilizumab on lipids, arterial stiffness, and markers of atherogenic risk in patients with moderate to severe active rheumatoid arthritis. In Part 1 of the study, patients will be randomized to receive either tocilizumab 8mg/kg intravenously or placebo every 4 weeks, in combination with methotrexate 7.5-25 mg weekly. In Part 2, all patients will receive open-label treatment with tocilizumab plus methotrexate.
NCT01007435
This randomized, double-blind, parallel group study will assess the safety, disease remission, and prevention of structural joint damage in patients with early moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis treated with tocilizumab as monotherapy or in combination with methotrexate, versus methotrexate alone. Patients will be randomized to receive either (A) tocilizumab (8 mg/kg iv every 4 weeks) plus placebo, (B) tocilizumab (8 mg/kg iv every 4 weeks) plus methotrexate (7.5-20 mg po weekly), (C) tocilizumab (4 mg/kg iv every 4 weeks) plus methotrexate (7.5-20 mg po weekly), or (D) placebo plus methotrexate (7.5-20 mg po weekly). Patients in groups C and D who have not achieved low disease activity at week 52 can receive tocilizumab 8 mg/kg iv every 4 weeks. Anticipated time on study treatment is 104 weeks.
NCT00833235
This is a multi-center, prospective, controlled, observational study of the natural history of patients with dry eye disease.
NCT01353677
This is a multi-institution, non-randomized, prospective pilot study to evaluate the feasibility of collecting quality of life (QOL) data on a large cohort of pediatric and adult allogeneic Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HCT) recipients.
NCT02287376
Study Objectives: 1. The primary objective is to characterize the pharmacokinetics of a single oral administration of 50 mg Cambia in pediatric subjects, ages 12-17 years with a diagnosis of episodic migraine with or without aura. 2. The secondary objectives are to determine: 1. The safety and tolerability of Cambia from a single dose 2. Three-month safety evaluation of Cambia in outpatient usage in this population
NCT00968162
Most bone marrow transplants for children with sickle cell disease are performed using high doses of two chemotherapy agents: busulfan and cyclophosphamide for the pre-transplant conditioning. This approach produces cure in most cases (approximately 95%). It, however, has serious side effects, including seizures and infertility. The primary goal of this study is to determine how much we can lower the dosages of busulfan and cyclophosphamide by incorporating fludarabine, a safer chemotherapy agent, into conditioning. The secondary goal is to develop a better understanding of how bone marrow transplants cause neurologic problems like seizures.
NCT01143402
This randomized phase II trial studies temozolomide to see how well it works compared to selumetinib in treating patients with melanoma of the eye that has spread to other places in the body. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as temozolomide, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Selumetinib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. It is not yet known whether temozolomide is more effective than selumetinib in treating melanoma of the eye.
NCT00984126
