This 2 part study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of 12 and 24 weeks treatment with RO5190591 (danoprevir) in combination with Pegasys and Copegus, compared to Pegasys and Copegus alone, in treatment-naive patients with chronic hepatitis C genotype 1 virus infection.In Part 1 of the study, patients will be randomized to receive either 1) RO5190591 300mg po every 8 hours, 2) RO5190591 600mg po every 12 hours, 3) RO5190591 900mg po every 12 hours or 4) placebo, in combination with standard doses of Pegasys and Copegus. If the safety and virological response data from Part 1 of the study are supportive, in Part 2 patients will be randomized to receive either 1) RO5190591 300mg po every 8 hours or 600mg po every 12 hours or 900mg po every 12 hours or 2)placebo, in combination with standard doses of Pegasys and Copegus. The anticipated time on study treatment is 24-48 weeks, and the target sample size is 100-500 individuals.

This double-blind, double-dummy 3 arm study will evaluate the efficacy, safety and tolerability of taspoglutide versus pioglitazone in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus inadequately controlled with sulfonylurea monotherapy or sulfonylurea plus metformin combination therapy. Human Papilloma virus (HPV) are viruses that cause a common infection of the skin and genitals in men and women. Several types of HPV infection are transmitted by sexual activity and, in women, can infect the cervix (part of the uterus or womb). This infection often goes away by itself, but if it does not go away (this is called persistent infection), it can lead in women over a long period of time to cancer of the cervix. If a woman is not infected by HPV, it is very unlikely that she will get cervical cancer. This is an observer blind follow up study of the study HPV-001, which evaluated the ability of the HPV vaccine to prevent HPV infection. The current study invites all of the 1113 subjects in the HPV-001 study that received all three doses of vaccine/placebo to be enrolled and followed-up for several additional years to see if the HPV vaccine prevents HPV-16 and HPV-18 infections and to evaluate the safety of the vaccine. Subjects will remain in the same study group as in the primary study. No vaccine or placebo will be administered in this study. The Protocol Posting has been updated in order to comply with the FDA Amendment Act, Sep 2007.

This phase II, open-label, randomized study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of MEHD7945A versus cetuximab in patients with recurrent/metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck who have progressed during or following platinum-based chemotherapy. Patients will be randomized to receive either MEHD7945A 1100 mg intravenously (iv) every 2 weeks or cetuximab 400 mg/m2 iv loading dose followed by 250 mg/m2 iv weekly. Patients treated with cetuximab (Arm B) may cross-over to MEHD7945A (Arm A) upon central confirmation of progressive disease and upon meeting eligibility criteria. Anticipated time on study treatment is until disease progression or intolerable toxicity occurs.

While all of these drugs are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of other cancers, these combinations are experimental for the treatment of CLL.
