Study CQMF149A2210 evaluated the safety of QMF149 Twisthaler® 500/400 μg, a fixed dose combination of indacaterol 500 μg, a once daily β2 agonist, and mometasone furoate 400 μg, an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) that is approved for use in the treatment of asthma. The objective of this safety trial was to assess the effect of treatment on the incidence of serious asthma exacerbations, defined as asthma related hospitalization and/or intubation and/or death. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the effectiveness and tolerability of the buprenorphine transdermal system (BTDS) 20 in comparison to the buprenorphine transdermal system (BTDS) 5 and oxycodone immediate-release in subjects with moderate to severe low back pain currently treated with oral opioids. The double-blind treatment intervention duration is 12 weeks during which time supplemental analgesic medication (acetaminophen, ibuprofen) will be provided to all subjects in addition to study drug.

Hypothesis and Specific Aims: The investigators hypothesize that ultrasound (US) visualization is as effective as nerve stimulation (NS) for identification of peripheral nervous structures and may be associated with less trauma and patient discomfort. Specifically, the investigators believe that equivalent rates of surgical anesthesia are achievable with non-invasive ultrasonic needle guidance in comparison to needle guidance by intensity of motor fiber response to intermittent electrical nerve stimulation. Specifically, the number of needle sticks to identify the brachial plexus and total time to plexus sheath injection may be reduced while achieving similar efficacy rates. The investigators hypothesize that similar composite safety and efficacy endpoints but improved patient satisfaction and acceptance will favor US over NS guidance of nerve blocks indicated for surgery on the extremity surgery. However, the investigators believe that an economic assessment based upon capital hardware investment, operating room utilization, total block time, and pay for performance patient satisfaction metrics require examination prior to assimilation of new technology into clinical practice.

Pilot, phase II, parallel-group, open-label, noncomparative, prospective, multicenter study designed to evaluate the progression-free survival of docetaxel and bevacizumab ± trastuzumab for the first-line treatment of participants with metastatic breast cancer. Participants were stratified according to human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2) status at the time of enrollment. HER2 negative participants were assigned to receive docetaxel and bevacizumab (DB). HER2 positive participants were assigned to receive docetaxel, bevacizumab, and trastuzumab (DBT). All participants (except one) were off study treatment on 30 June 2011. All efficacy analysis and safety analysis was performed using the cut-off date of June 2011. One participant continued treatment till 11 March 2012. For this participant, adverse events were collected upto 19 April 2012 and included in the safety analysis.

RATIONALE: Thalidomide may stop the growth of melanoma by blocking blood flow to the tumor. It may also stimulate the immune system in different ways and stop tumor cells from growing. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as temozolomide, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving thalidomide together with temozolomide may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving thalidomide together with temozolomide works in treating patients with stage IV melanoma that cannot be removed by surgery.

Giving erlotinib before surgery may make the tumor smaller and reduce the amount of normal tissue that needs to be removed. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well erlotinib works in treating patients with breast cancer that can be removed by surgery.
