The aim of this trial was to investigate the efficacy and safety of intravenous neridronic acid in subjects with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). The trial consisted of an Enrollment Period lasting up to 60 days, Treatment Period A consisting of 4 infusions (neridronic acid or placebo) over 10 days, and a Follow-up Period 1 until Week 26. At Week 26, participants not meeting the pre-specified criteria to continue into Treatment Period B continued in Follow-up Period 2 until Week 52. Participants meeting the pre-specified criteria entered the open-label Treatment Period B with 4 additional infusions (neridronic acid) over 10 days and follow-up visits until Week 52.
NCT03628651
The primary objective of this study is to obtain de-identified, clinically-characterized whole blood specimens for use in developing and evaluating the performance of new biomarker assays for detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
NCT02613572
Because of its iron-chelating and antioxidant properties, alpha lipoic acid may be a treatment for geographic atrophy (GA) secondary to age-related macular degeneration. There is ample published data about the safety and pharmacokinetics of alpha lipoic acid in adults. However, there is not much data on the safety and tolerability of higher doses of alpha lipoic acid in the elderly population. The purpose of Phase I of this protocol is to determine if there are safety/tolerability concerns seen when higher doses of alpha lipoic acid are taken by subjects 65 years of age or older. The objective of Phase 2 of this protocol is to determine the effects of ALA on the progression of GA in subjects with AMD. The central hypothesis, based on the existing literature, is that oral ALA reduces the rate of enlargement of GA in AMD subjects. The rationale is that the antioxidant and iron chelating effects of ALA will slow down one of the major pathways responsible for GA progression.
NCT04164550
The primary purpose of this study is to address the limited knowledge regarding patient well- being and nasal function after interpolated flap repair of post-Mohs surgical defects on the nose. Improved understanding of the patient experience will allow providers to better counsel their patients pre-operatively and potentially identify patients who may benefit from additional interventions.
NCT03569592
The overall objective of this study is to evaluate an educational overdose prevention intervention's effectiveness among incarcerated people living with HIV/AIDS, specifically within the context of other outcomes related to health and experiences after incarceration. Results will be used to develop tailored interventions to reduce overdose deaths among high-risk correctional populations. The research has the following aims: * Aim 1: Evaluate a pilot program to provide HIV+ inmates with 1:1 overdose prevention training while incarcerated; * Aim 2: Identify the criminal justice, health, and HIV-related factors associated with overdose risk; and * Aim 3: Describe the overdose risk experiences of HIV+ former inmates who use opioids after release.
NCT02308007
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of terconazole/metronidazole gel in the treatment of vaginal infections
NCT02593032
Medication adherence is defined as the extent to which a patient takes his or her medication as prescribed by their healthcare provider. One third to one half of all patients in the United States do not take their medication as directed, resulting in nearly $100B in avoidable hospital costs per year. Recent efforts to improve medication adherence in patients with multiple comorbidities have turned to case management and disease management programs. Connected monitoring devices offer an alternative- or supplement- to frequent nurse visits and outreach. These devices enable frequent monitoring and intervention but can also generate large volumes of data that can be difficult for care teams to manage. The present study explores the use of one such device- a technology-enabled, connected pillbox. Given the continued emphasis on bending the cost curve in US healthcare, clinical validation of tools that may improve the management of costly chronic diseases, such as diabetes, is essential.
NCT02421120
There is established evidence that adult patients with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) may have altered antibiotic pharmacokinetics compared with non-CF patients. Ceftolozane/Tazobactam is a newly approved broad spectrum intravenous antibiotic, which has potent in vitro activity against multidrug resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, the most common pathogen implicated in CF pulmonary exacerbations. This study will determine the pharmacokinetics and tolerability of ceftolozane/tazobactam in 20 adult CF patients admitted for a pulmonary exacerbation at one of 4 participating hospitals in the US. Patients will remain on standard of care IV antibiotics and receive 4-6 doses of ceftolozane/tazobactam 3 grams every 8 hours. Blood will be sampled after the final dose to determine concentrations and pharmacokinetics of ceftolozane and tazobactam. Safety and tolerability will be assessed throughout the 3 day study.
NCT01526928
Rociletinib is a novel, potent, small molecule irreversible tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) that selectively targets mutant forms of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) while sparing wild-type (WT) EGFR. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the pharmacokinetic (PK) and safety profile of oral rociletinib; to determine the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) and/or recommended Phase 2 dose (RP2D) of oral rociletinib; to assess the safety and efficacy of rociletinib in previously treated NSCLC patients known to have the T790M EGFR mutation.

NCT03520530
Shortening the second stage of labor, the time spent pushing the baby out, is important for positive mother and infant's outcomes. Lack of progress of labor for any reason is the most common reason for cesarean section in women having their first baby and the second most common reason for cesarean section in women who have already had a baby. In 2014, a large study done across the United States showed increases in complications in both mother and infant when pushing was prolonged, including uterine infection, postpartum hemorrhage, more extensive vaginal tearing, shoulder dystocia, 5 minute Apgar score less than 4, infant admission to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and neonatal infections. Therefore, the challenge is to consider alternative practices in order to maximize a mother's chance of a vaginal delivery and minimize these associated risks to both mother and baby. Mouth guards are used primarily in contact sports, and have been demonstrated to reduce or prevent injury to the teeth. Additionally, it has been proposed that wearing a mouth guard increases the strength of different muscle groups. A recent randomized controlled pilot study including women with their first pregnancy using a dental support device (DSD) during the second stage of labor evaluated the length of the second stage and outcomes. They found a significant decrease of 38% in the length of pushing time in the group that used a DSD. Additionally, there was a decreased rate of cesarean section in this group, however a p-value was not reported. This study only included 64 patients. A second, larger trial did not find a significant difference in pushing time, however the rate of interventions such as a vacuum or forceps-assisted vaginal delivery and cesarean section were much higher in the control group due to prolonged pushing. The results of the second study are contradictory in nature, yet the researchers do not provide hypotheses into why this may be. It is clear from the previously mentioned studies that further research is needed. Our hypothesis is that using such a device would help women to push more effectively during the second stage of labor thus shortening the time needed to push the baby out and increasing the rate of vaginal delivery. The purpose of this study is to determine whether wearing a mouth guard in the second stage of labor affects the length of the second stage of labor and improves mother \& infant outcomes.
NCT00946647
The purpose of this randomized, two-arm, open-label expansion phase study was to collect preliminary efficacy data of panobinostat at the recommended phase II dose (RPIID) level in combination with azacytidine (5-Aza) versus an active control arm 5-Aza alone. This randomized phase II part also allowed collecting safety data of panobinostat in combination with 5-Aza in comparison to single-agent 5-aza.
NCT00004889
RATIONALE: Monoclonal antibodies can locate tumor cells and either kill them or deliver tumor-killing substances to them without harming normal cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of rituximab in treating patients who have Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia.
NCT00062179
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy such as paclitaxel and carboplatin use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Celecoxib may increase the effectiveness of a chemotherapy drug by making tumor cells more sensitive to the drug, may stop the growth of tumor cells by stopping blood flow to the tumor, and/or may block the enzymes necessary for tumor cell growth. Giving combination chemotherapy with celecoxib before surgery may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This randomized phase II trial is studying how well giving paclitaxel together with carboplatin followed by surgery works compared to giving paclitaxel together with carboplatin and celecoxib followed by surgery in treating patients with stage IIIA non-small cell lung cancer.
