NCT00005578
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Chemoprotective drugs, such as dexrazoxane, may protect normal cells from the side effects of chemotherapy. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy with or without dexrazoxane in treating children who have Hodgkin's disease.
NCT01191216
This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of giving 1-methyl-d-tryptophan and docetaxel together in treating patients with metastatic solid tumors. Biological therapies, such as 1-methyl-d-tryptophan, may stop the growth of tumor cells by stimulating the immune system and by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as docetaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving 1-methyl-d-tryptophan with chemotherapy may kill more tumor cells.
NCT00763867
Diastolic heart failure (DHF), which affects older individuals and women at a disproportionate rate, is a condition that can lead to shortness of breath and fluid build-up in the lungs. This study will evaluate the effectiveness of the medication sildenafil at improving exercise ability and health outcomes in people with DHF.
NCT00207870
Supracondylar fractures are the most common elbow fractures in children. In the current orthopedic literature crossed pinning and lateral-only entry techniques are co-gold standards of operative treatment. The crossed pinning technique has been shown to be biomechanically superior especially under torsional loading but has a higher incidence of iatrogenic injury to the ulnar nerve. All studies comparing these techniques to date have been either biomechanical or retrospective in nature. A randomized, controlled, prospective study comparing these two popular techniques has not been performed. The purpose of this study is to prospectively evaluate the amount of displacement incurred when treating type III supracondylar humerus fractures in children with crossed pinning versus lateral-entry only technique. Overall complication rate, loss of reduction, iatrogenic neurovascular injury, and pin tract infection rates between the two cohorts will be evaluated. The study population will comprise all patients less than ten years of age presenting to Scottish Rite Hospital during the study period with a type III supracondylar fracture managed by the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Orthopedic Group. All patients will be randomized to one specific treatment arm based on surgeon preference established at the onset of the study. The hypothesis to be tested is that no difference in amount of displacement or overall complication rate is present between these two techniques. Radiographic parameters measured pre-operatively, immediately post-operatively and four weeks post-operatively will be quantitatively evaluated and compared. Chart reviews to determine complications during the treatment period will be made. Pre-study power analysis and post-study statistical analysis will be performed.
NCT01654536
This is a 6 month, multicenter, randomized, open label, parallel group, study to evaluate the nasal safety of ciclesonide nasal aerosol and ciclesonide aqueous nasal spray administered once daily to male and female subjects 12 years and older diagnosed with PAR.
NCT00955279
This study tests the safety and effectiveness of ustekinumab or golimumab compared to placebo (placebo looks like the drugs being studied, but has no active ingredients). The purpose of this research study is to determine if ustekinumab or golimumab is safe and to determine its effects (good and bad) on patients with chronic sarcoidosis with pulmonary and/or skin involvement. Patients with pulmonary involvement constitute the primary population for analysis, and patients with skin involvement constitute the secondary population; a patient may be in both populations. The study will be conducted at approximately 40 sites globally.
NCT00235716
The purpose of this study is to determine whether alpha-tocopherol, memantine (Namenda), or the combination will significantly delay clinical progression in mild to moderately demented patients with Alzheimer's disease compared to placebo.
NCT00248651
Functional dyspepsia is a common gastrointestinal disorder. Symptoms can include stomach pain or discomfort, bloating, fullness after eating meals, and nausea. These symptoms often interfere with school and work, and weight loss may occur due to dietary restrictions. The hypothesis of this study was that antidepressant therapy is more effective than placebo in relief of the symptoms of functional dyspepsia, adjusting for psychological and psychiatric co-morbidity. The study also examined if antidepressant therapy reduces disability and improves quality of life in functional dyspepsia.
NCT00787800
The RAPTURE Study will determine whether dual chamber defibrillators with atrial prevention and termination therapies, minimized ventricular pacing, and remote monitoring will reduce the rate of inappropriate shocks and improve quality of life compared to optimally programmed back-up pacing only single chamber ICDs when used for primary prevention of sudden cardiac death
NCT00002805
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more cancer cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy in treating patients with acute myeloid leukemia or myelodysplastic syndrome in first relapse or who did not achieve first remission.
NCT00003597
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Colony-stimulating factors such as thrombopoietin and G-CSF may increase the number of immune cells found in bone marrow or peripheral blood and may help a person's immune system recover from the side effects of chemotherapy. PURPOSE: Phase I trial to study the effectiveness of colony-stimulating factors in treating children who have recurrent or refractory solid tumors and who are receiving chemotherapy.
NCT00003735
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of topotecan in treating children who have relapsed acute leukemia, acute myeloid leukemia, or blast phase chronic myelogenous leukemia.
NCT00546000
A multi-center, open-label, Phase IV, unblinded study using Cutivate (fluticasone propionate, 0.05%)lotion and it's possible effects on the HPA axis of infants diagnosed with atopic dermatitis.
NCT00707148
The purpose of this study is to look at the safety and immunogenicity of a combination vaccine that includes tetanus toxoid, reduced diphtheria toxoid, and acellular pertussis (Tdap). The study will be conducted in 48 pregnant women and 32 non-pregnant women. Safety of the newborn infant and the effect of the mother's vaccination on the infants' immune responses prior to vaccinating infants with another combination vaccine to protect against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis will be evaluated. Participants will be 18-45 years old. Pregnant volunteers will be 30-32 weeks pregnant and at a low risk for pregnancy complications. Pregnant volunteers will receive 2 injections (1 vaccine and 1 placebo, inactive substance); non-pregnant volunteers will receive 1 injection of vaccine. Blood samples will be collected from the mother and infant, along with the baby's growth measurements. Participation for mother infant pairs is about 15 months and about 7 months for non-pregnant women.
NCT00535145
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the tolerability and safety of paliperidone ER (extended-release) in doses between 3 milligrams per day and 12 milligrams per day in the treatment of patients with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder and liver disease.

NCT01408277
Subjects enrolled in this study will either use Santyl daily or follow standard care procedures for up to 6 weeks for their diabetic foot wound. After 6 weeks of treatment, the subjects will continue into the follow-up phase for an additional 6 weeks. Study doctors will look at the wound in the office each week (up to 12 weeks) to see if the wound is healing. Depending on a number of factors at each office visit, the study doctors may also use a procedure called sharp debridement to remove dead skin from the wound. This study will test the hypothesis that daily treatment of diabetic foot wounds with Santyl will result in more rapid healing, healthier wounds, and fewer required sharp debridements over the study period than for diabetic foot wounds treated in other ways.
