NCT01570192
The primary objective of this study is to demonstrate a low rate of emergence of antibiotic resistance in P. aeruginosa and Acinetobacter spp during the treatment of hospitalized patients with pneumonia requiring mechanical ventilation treated with PD optimized meropenem administered as a prolonged infusion in combination with a parenteral aminoglycoside plus tobramycin by inhalation (Group 1) compared to therapy with meropenem alone (Group 2 - control arm).
NCT01436305
The purpose of this study was to assess whether a new drug, Nulojix® (belatacept), would minimize serious long term side effects associated with anti-rejection medications while still protecting the new kidney from damage. The researchers also wanted to learn more about the safety of this treatment and long term health of the transplanted kidney.
NCT01203514
This study tested the safety and efficacy of transfusing erythropoietin (Epo) and iron in infants of \<1,250g birth weight. For infants 401-1,000g birth weight, we tested whether early erythropoietin (Epo) and iron therapy would decrease the number of transfusions received. For infants 1,001-1,250g birth weight, we tested whether early erythropoietin (Epo) and iron therapy would decrease the percentage of infants who received any transfusions.
NCT01223287
This observational study was conducted to design and test a physiologic definition for bronchopulmonary dysplasia at 36 weeks of life. Infants were studied in a supine position with the pulse oximeter in position with good signal prior to collecting baseline data. Feedings and medications were given 30 minutes before the evaluation. Baseline data was collected on infant's current oxygen. Then, the infants were weaned to room air for 30 minutes. If saturations remain ≥90%, the infant was considered to have passed the oxygen reduction challenge (to NOT have BPD). The infant should then be placed back in his/her baseline oxygen. If the infant has saturations \<90% for 5 continuous minutes or \<80% for 15 seconds, the infant should be immediately placed back in his/her baseline oxygen, and the infant was considered to have NOT passed the challenge (to have BPD).
NCT00399880
Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the leading cause of death in the United States. Most people who die from CHD die of a heart attack. Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is a term that includes mild heart attacks, as well as other episodes of chest pain that may serve as a warning sign for an upcoming heart attack. There are many medicines that can help prevent and treat ACS. However, at least 25% of patients don't take their medications as prescribed. When patients don't take their medications, we say they are noncompliant or nonadherent with the treatment. The period following hospital discharge is a vulnerable time for many patients. Patients are often confused about what to do when they return home from the hospital. Many patients don't take their medications correctly, or they don't take them at all. Patients with poor literacy skills have more trouble than others, because it is harder for them to follow written instructions. Overall, about half of the adults in the U.S. have poor literacy skills. It is important to develop ways to help these adults manage their health better. The purposes of this research project are 1) to learn more about the relationship between low literacy and medication adherence after hospital discharge, and 2) to test a strategy designed to help patients take their medicines more regularly. We will recruit consenting patients hospitalized with ACS. We will measure their literacy skills, ask questions about how they take their medicines, and measure other related factors like social support and self-efficacy. Patients will then be assigned to 1 of 2 groups. One group will receive only usual care at hospital discharge, which usually includes the nurse and physician briefly reviewing the medication prescriptions. The other group will receive an illustrated daily medication schedule and special, tailored counseling from a pharmacist at their time of discharge. About 1 week after patients leave the hospital we will contact them by phone to ask them questions about how they have been taking their medicines. We will get data from patients records for 6 months to see if the intervention had an impact on their medication compliance, blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes measurements. If this study is successful, this simple strategy could be implemented by hospitals to improve medication compliance after discharge. This study will also provide more information about how patients' literacy skills affect their medication compliance.
NCT00922649
16-week, open-label, multi-center pilot study. Insulin pump naïve subjects with type 2 diabetes who are not achieving glycemic targets (screening A1C ≥ 7.0%) on an established regimen of either: 1) ≥ 2 OAs (Cohort A), 2) basal insulin ± OAs (Cohort B), or 3) basal-bolus insulin ± OAs (Cohort C) will initiate basal-bolus therapy with an insulin pump using a rapid-acting insulin analog.
NCT00495521
The purpose of this 4 week study is to determine whether PASER®, an approved delayed-release oral formulation of 4-aminosalicylic acid, in doses of 50 milligrams per kilogram three times daily for 2 weeks followed by 50 milligrams per kilogram twice daily for 2 weeks, will resolve an acute flare of ileocecal Crohn's disease.
NCT02406235
The overall objective of this study is to assess turnaround time, pre-BRCA test onco-genetic counselling quality and satisfaction with a new onco-genetic BRCA testing model.
NCT01811732
This study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of delafloxacin patients with acute bacterial skin and soft tissue infections (ABSSSI).
NCT01147744
To evaluate the efficacy, dose response and safety of four doses of GSK2190915 in tablet form (10mg, 30mg, 100mg and 300mg) administered once daily, over 8 weeks compared with placebo in adolescent and adult subjects (12 years of age and older) with persistent asthma. These data will form the basis for the selection of the optimal daily dose of GSK2190915 to be carried forward in Phase III asthma studies. The study also includes Fluticasone Propionate Inhalation Powder (100 mcg, twice daily) and Montelukast (10mg, once daily) to allow for an exploratory analysis of the efficacy of GSK2190915 versus a low dose inhaled corticosteroid and a leukotriene receptor antagonist.
NCT01222364
This study tested the feasibility of conducting a randomized controlled trial to vary the timing that doctors clamp the umbilical cord after birth in extremely low birthweight infants. The study also tested whether delaying cord clamping by 30-35 seconds and holding the newborn approximately 10 inches below the birth canal would result in increased hematocrit at 4 hours of age.
NCT00016523
This multicenter trial tested whether inhaled nitric oxide would reduce death or the need for oxygen in preterm infants (less than 34 weeks gestational age) with severe lung disease.
NCT00620451
This study was conducted to assess the safety and efficacy of larazotide acetate versus placebo in inducing remission in subjects with active celiac disease.
NCT00492960
This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of multiple doses of larazotide acetate in preventing intestinal permeability changes induced by a 6- week gluten challenge in subjects with celiac disease.
NCT01644877
This protocol will seek to enroll immunocompromised patients who are on supplemental oxygen and diagnosed with a parainfluenza infection.
NCT01340794
This phase II trial studies how well pazopanib hydrochloride works in treating patients with advanced or progressive malignant pheochromocytoma or paraganglioma. Pazopanib hydrochloride may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth and by blocking blood flow to the tumor.
NCT02719769

NCT00005776
Respiratory failure in term newborns is associated with increased rates of death and long-term neurodevelopmental problems. This large international multicenter trial randomized newborns who had failed to respond to intensive care, including high levels of ventilator support, to receive either inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) or 100 percent oxygen to test whether iNO would decrease their risk of dying or requiring temporary lung bypass. Infants were followed during their initial hospitalization; their outcome was assessed at 18 to 24 mos of age.
NCT01684423
The purpose of this study is to find out whether rivaroxaban is safe to use in children and how long it stays in the body. There will also be a check for bleeding and worsening of blood clots.
NCT01617681
To assess efficacy, safety and tolerability of valsartan when comparing two doses of valsartan in reducing and controlling blood pressure in children with hypertension with or without CKD.
