NCT00770471
RATIONALE: ABT-888 may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as temozolomide, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving ABT-888 together with radiation therapy and temozolomide may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase I/II trial is studying the side effects and best dose of ABT-888 when given together with radiation therapy and temozolomide and to see how well it works in treating patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma multiforme.
NCT01228318
With the increasing age of people living with HIV/AIDS, age-induced osteoporosis is likely to be compounded by HIV/AIDS and HAART-associated bone loss. Mechanistically, osteoclasts the cells responsible for bone resorption form under the influence of the key osteoclastogenic cytokine receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-Β ligand (RANKL). The osteoclastogenic and proresorptive activities of RANKL are moderated by its physiological decoy receptor osteoprotegerin (OPG). Imbalance in the ratio of RANKL to OPG alters osteoclastic bone resorption and lead to osteoporosis. Activated T- and B-cells are a major source of RANKL, while normal physiological B-cells are a major source of OPG. T-cells regulate the production of OPG by B-cells. Thus changes in the immune system induced by HIV/AIDS and/or by HAART could affect B-cell and T-cells RANKL and OPG production. Indeed, data from our group shows that in an animal model of HIV/AIDS, the HIV-1 Transgenic rat, the development of osteoporosis is recapitulated as observed in HIV-infected patients, and B-cell OPG and RANKL production are concurrently down regulated and upregulated respectively. Furthermore, preliminary data in HIV-infected subjects suggests dramatic acute upswing in bone resorption following HAART initiation that peaks at 12 weeks and then declines. Based on these findings, the investigators hypothesize HAART associated bone loss is driven by immune reconstitution. Because this effect of HAART is dramatic in magnitude but short in duration, the investigators propose to apply antiresorptive agent (zoledronic acid, reclast®) to specifically spare patients from this dramatic but acute bone damage.

This study will compare the number and percentage of subjects with anti-palivizumab antibodies receiving either the liquid or lyophilized formulation of palivizumab.
NCT00546078
Infection with human papillomavirus (HPV) has been clearly established as the central cause of cervical cancer. This study will further evaluate induction of immune memory and anamnestic responses in women who previously took part in the primary study (580299/001) and follow-up study (580299/007). Subjects were aged 15-25 yrs at the time of entry into the primary study and participation in the follow-up study lasted approximately 6 years. In the primary and follow-up studies, subjects were protected against HPV-16 and HPV-18 endpoints and had sustained antibody responses to both vaccine types over at least 5.5 years of follow-up. All subjects from North American study sites that completed the follow-up study will be invited to take part in the current study. The study will evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of a dose of GSK Biologicals HPV vaccine (580299) in women who had been immunologically primed in the primary study. The Protocol Posting has been updated in order to comply with the FDA Amendment Act, Sep 2007.
NCT00132301
VA Cooperative Study #553 is designed to prospectively evaluate the efficacy of early adjuvant chemotherapy using docetaxel and prednisone added to the standard of care for patients who are potentially cured by radical prostatectomy but who are at high risk for relapse. The standard of care is surveillance, with the addition of androgen deprivation at the time of biochemical relapse. This study will assess the effect of adding early chemotherapy to the standard of care on progression free survival in Veterans at high risk for progression after prostatectomy.
NCT01818388
A multicenter prospective single arm interventional trial in hospitals where therapeutic hypothermia is standard practice. This trial will enroll 50 subjects to evaluate the ability of the ZOLL Intravascular Temperature Management (IVTM) System to induce, maintain, and reverse mild therapeutic hypothermia and maintain normothermia post cardiac arrest.
NCT01916226
This phase IV investigational trial is being conducted to evaluate the efficacy of a 2-week treatment of fluticasone propionate nasal spray (FPNS) vs. cetirizine on allergic nasal and ocular symptoms and quality of life in adult subjects with SAR. It is hypothesized that FPNS provides greater nasal symptom relief than cetirizine. The primary measure used to test this hypothesis is the change from baseline over two weeks in reflective total nasal symptom score (rTNSS) compared between FPNS and cetirizine. Approximately 648 subjects will be randomized into a 1:1:1:1 ratio of treatment allocation across approximately twenty-five to thirty-five sites in the US during the 2013 fall allergy season. All subjects will be outpatients. The total duration of study will be approximately 21 days including 7 days of screening period, and 14 days of treatment period.
NCT01907269
The purpose of this study is to conduct a randomized trial of a tailored intervention designed to provide personalized feedback regarding patients' risk of subsequent fractures, customized information regarding osteoporosis care, and messaging to activate patients to become more engaged in improving osteoporosis treatment and doctor-patient communication. This novel content will use "story-telling" delivered via the Internet and digital video discs (DVDs). The content will be uniquely tailored to each person based on barriers to care, age and race/ethnicity. We will conduct a controlled, cluster-randomized trial of this intervention to determine differences in post-intervention rates of osteoporosis care between two randomization arms. We hypothesize that participants randomized to the intervention arm, compared to those randomized to a control arm, will receive more osteoporosis care at 6 months post-intervention, as evidenced by higher rates of: (H1) Prescription osteoporosis therapies, (H2) Non-prescription therapy with calcium and vitamin D, and (H3) Bone mineral density (BMD) testing.
NCT01323673
