NCT02049502
The purpose of this study is to test whether Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT) is a safe and effective treatment for people who have Ulcerative Colitis and have had an ileal pouch anastomosis. Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that may be caused by a person's immune system responding in an unusual way to bacteria normally found in the gut. Studies have shown that the gut bacteria in people with ulcerative colitis (UC) are different from the gut bacteria in people without ulcerative colitis (UC). Often, people with ulcerative colitis (UC) have fewer types of bacteria in their gut which can change the way that person's immune system works. This study is for people who have had a proctocolectomy with an ileal pouch anastomosis (IPAA) to treat ulcerative colitis (UC). More than 50% of people who have had an IPAA will develop a condition called pouchitis. Pouchitis is short or long-term inflammation of the ileal pouch that was created in order to store waste from your intestines. Patients with pouchitis are being asked to take part in this study. Currently, antibiotics, probiotics and prebiotics are used to treat pouchitis. However, it has been shown that probiotics are not very helpful once the patient stops taking them. In addition, antibiotics may cause unfavorable side effects. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is being studied as another form of treatment for patients with active pouchitis. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) or "stool transplant" involves receiving a single fecal enema from someone who has volunteered to donate their stool. There are two purposes of this research study: 1. To see whether or not fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is a useful treatment for patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) associated pouchitis 2. To study the changes within the bacteria in the gut in patients with pouchitis (before and after study treatment) using stool, blood and urine samples
NCT01273155
Background: \- Belinostat is an experimental cancer treatment drug that works by helping to turn on genes that limit cell growth and survival of cancer cells. These genes are often switched off in tumors. Belinostat has been given to patients with different types of cancer to measure its safety and effectiveness, but it has not been given in a formal trial to cancer patients who have abnormal liver function. Because belinostat is processed by the liver, its safety and effectiveness needs to be established in individuals who have abnormal liver function. Researchers are interested in comparing the effects of belinostat as a cancer treatment drug in individuals with normal and abnormal liver function. Objectives: * To test the safety and effectiveness of belinostat in individuals who have solid tumors and lymphomas and who also have abnormal liver function. * To compare the results of belinostat treatment in individuals with normal and abnormal liver function. Eligibility: * Individuals at least 18 years of age who have been diagnosed with solid tumors or lymphomas that have not responded to standard treatment. * Individuals with normal liver function and varying degrees of abnormal liver function (mild, moderate, severe) are eligible. Design: * Participants will be screened with a full medical history and physical examination, as well as blood and urine tests, and tumor imaging studies. Participants will then be divided into study groups based on their liver function. * Participants will receive belinostat in cycles of treatment. Except for cycle 1, all cycles will last 21 days. Cycle 1 will last 28 days. For cycle 1 only, participants will receive a single dose of belinostat 1 week before the regular 21-day treatment cycle starts. * In each cycle, participants will receive belinostat once a day for 5 days, and will be asked to keep a medication diary to record any side effects. * Participants will have regular clinic visits with blood and urine sample collection and imaging studies to evaluate the cancer's response to treatment. * Participants may continue to take belinostat for as long as the cancer responds to the treatment.
NCT00109525
This observational study evaluated the performance of new lab tests in detecting candida species fungal infections in extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants quickly and accurately. 19 NICHD Neonatal Research Network sites enrolled 1,500 infants with birth weights ≤1,000g; 100 of these infants later tested positive for candidiasis. Blood, urine, and lumbar puncture samples were collected whenever other specimens were obtained from participants for cultures. These samples are being tested using the new methods and compared with standard culture results. Surviving study subjects completed a neurodevelopmental evaluation at 18-22 months corrected age.
NCT01223261
The purposes of this study were: 1) to compare mortality and postoperative morbidities in extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants who underwent initial laparotomy or drainage for necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) or isolated intestinal perforation (IP); 2) to determine the ability to distinguish NEC from IP preoperatively and the importance of this distinction on outcome measures; and 3) to evaluate the association between extent of intestinal disease determined at operation and outcome measures. All ELBW infants born at participating NRN centers were screened for the presence of NEC or IP that was thought by the pediatric surgeon and neonatologist to require surgical intervention. Data were collected enrolled infants, including: intraoperative findings recorded by the surgeon and specific post-operative complications. Neurodevelopmental examinations were conducted on surviving infants at 18-22 months corrected age.
NCT02372578
The purpose of this study is to assess analgesic efficacy of ASP3662 relative to placebo in subjects with painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy (PDPN) as well as assess the safety and tolerability of ASP3662 relative to placebo. The analgesic effect is evaluated by measuring percent responders, change in daily worst pain score, change in average daily pain score, Patient Global Impression of Change (PGIC) and Clinical Global Impression of Change (CGIC).
NCT03333824
The purpose of this study is to determine whether AZD1775 has any effect on the pharmacokinetics (PK) of three compounds (caffeine, omeprazole, and midazolam) that are probes for common drug-metabolizing enzymes (caffeine-CYP1A2, omeprazole-CYP2C19, midazolam-CYP3A). The study also seeks to determine the effect of AZD1775 on the QTc interval, which is a common measure of cardiac (heart) function.
NCT00626912
The PRET study aims at comparing two types of coils used in the endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms. The first type made of platinum has been used for more than 15 years. The other, referred to as hydrocoil, containing in addition to platinum a polymer layer that expands when in contact with blood, has been in use since 2002. The hypothesis of the PRET study is that the newer hydrocoil will be more effective and yet as safe as the older platinum coil.
NCT00724503
This study is a randomized multi-center trial that will assess the effect of adding Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT), using SIR-Spheres microspheres®, to a standard chemotherapy regimen of FOLFOX as first line therapy in patients with non-resectable liver metastases from primary colorectal adenocarcinoma. Treatment with the biologic agent bevacizumab, if part of the standard of care at participating institutions, is allowed within this study at the discretion of the treating Investigator.
NCT01685138
A single-arm, open-label, two-stage multicenter, phase II study. Patients were pre-screened for ALK positive status. Treatment with LDK378 at 750 mg qd was continued until the patient experienced unacceptable toxicity that precluded further treatment, discontinued treatment at the discretion of the investigator or patient, started a new anticancer therapy and/or died. LDK378 was continued beyond RECIST defined progressive disease (PD) as assessed by the investigator, if in the judgment of the investigator, there was evidence of clinical benefit. Patients who discontinued the study medication in the absence of progression continued to be followed for tumor assessment until the time of PD as assessed by the investigator. Male and female patients aged 18 or over with ALK-rearranged non-small cell cancer (NSCLC) were screened for eligibility. Patients had to have received no prior crizotinib, and had to be chemotherapy-naïve or been pretreated with cytotoxic chemotherapy (up to three prior lines).

NCT01737281
Veterans with a mental health diagnosis have higher a prevalence of smoking and higher rates of smoking-related morbidities compared to the general Veteran population. Smoking cessation treatment delivery in the VA typically depends on a visit from a health care provider. In this study, investigators will use information within the electronic medical record to identify all smokers with a mental health diagnosis at a VA health care facility and proactively reach out to enroll them in an intensive tobacco cessation treatment program. This approach could be generalized to other behaviors and provides a novel method to improve the health of an entire population of patients.
NCT02396862
