NCT00002378
To determine the proportion of patients whose plasma HIV-1 RNA level falls below the level of detection (\< 400 copies/ml) at week 24 of study therapy. To determine the absolute change in plasma HIV-1 RNA during the 24 weeks of study treatment. To collect safety data on the treatment regimens. AS PER AMENDMENT 12/12/97: To compare the virologic response of Fortovase (FTV) (Saquinavir) Soft Gel Capsule (SGC) tid plus nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) versus FTV bid plus NRTIs. Further, to compare the virologic response of FTV tid plus NRTIs versus FTV bid plus Nelfinavir bid plus a NRTI with respect to: the percentage of patients whose plasma HIV-1 RNA level falls below the Amplicor assay level of detection (\< 400 copies/ml) at week 24 and week 48.
NCT00027222
The goal of the Early Treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity Study (ETROP) is to test the hypothesis that earlier treatment in carefully selected cases will result in an overall better visual outcome than treatment at the conventional CRYO-ROP threshold point in the disease.
NCT00034307
This is a clinical research study designed to evaluate an investigational new medication called sitaxsentan for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (patients with NYHA functional class II, III or IV). The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of two different doses of sitaxsentan, compared to placebo (inactive treatment) for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension. Patients who complete this trial may be eligible to take part in an extension trial (Protocol FPH01-X). Eligible patients who receive placebo in the 12-week study cross over to receive sitaxsentan for the extension trial.
NCT00068133
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and tolerability of VLTS-589 compared with placebo, administered bilaterally to the lower extremities, in subjects with intermittent claudication and to determine the effect of VLTS-589 in peak walking time (PWT) for subjects receiving VLTS-589 compared with subjects receiving placebo.
NCT00000108
The purpose of this research is to find out whether training at different exercise intensities reduces the risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) to a different extent. Heart attacks and stroke are the leading cause of death in older women. Reduced variability of the heart rate and increased dips and swings in blood pressure are risks factors that predict the chance of developing CVD as are increased levels of clotting protein fibrinogen and plasminogen activator inhibitor 1, and high levels of LDL-cholesterol (\>160mg/dl). We will be measuring all of these risk factors and any changes in your body fat level before you start training and after 15 and 30 weeks of training in the form of walking. At the present time the effects of exercise intensity on these factors are not well understood. This study will add to the basic understanding of these issues and allow us to recommend to postmenopausal women optimal exercise intensities to lose body fat and reduce the risk of developing CVD.
NCT00032279
The purpose of this phase II study is to evaluate an investigational monoclonal antibody for the treatment of glucocorticoid-refractory Graft Versus Host Disease (GVHD). Patients diagnosed with GVHD who have not responded satisfactorily to, or are intolerant of, treatment with standard agents will be considered for entry. Patients will be allowed to continue on their other immunosuppressive drugs at stable doses during the trial. The research is being conducted at up to 20 clinical research sites in the US.
NCT00005012
The purpose of this study is to see if it is effective to give PEG-Intron (PEG-IFN) to HIV-infected patients who are not doing well with their current anti-HIV drug combination (HAART).
NCT00002227
The purpose of this study is to see if it is safe and effective to give efavirenz plus stavudine plus lamivudine to patients who have never taken anti-HIV drugs.
NCT00000828
To identify patterns of zidovudine ( AZT ) susceptibility among mother/infant pairs with perinatal HIV transmission. Most HIV-infected infants acquire their disease via perinatal transmission. Since transmission of HIV-resistant strains to infants could alter the course of disease and response to currently recommended treatment, a study to assess the patterns of AZT susceptibility among mother/infant pairs with perinatal transmission is essential to delineate future therapeutic strategies.
NCT00000178
This is a randomized placebo controlled, double blind study. Patients who meet eligibility criteria and decide to participate in the study will be randomly assigned to receive either drug treatment or a placebo. Neither the patients nor the participating investigators will know who is receiving the drugs and who is receiving the placebo. Participation involves 15 outpatient clinic visits over a 68 week period. Patients take study medication at varying doses (the maximum dose is 20 mg daily), along with calcium and vitamin supplements.
NCT00002447
The purpose of this study is to compare 2 anti-HIV drug combinations.
NCT00008554
The purpose of this study is to compare GW433908 and nelfinavir when each is given with abacavir and lamivudine to HIV patients who have not taken antiretroviral drugs.
NCT00002040
To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of fluconazole as an intravenous dose as initial treatment for acute cryptococcal meningitis followed by oral therapy in AIDS and non-AIDS patients. Both newly diagnosed and relapsed patients are eligible. The effectiveness of maintenance fluconazole therapy in sustaining a clinical cure in AIDS patients will also be evaluated.
NCT00002187
The purpose of this study is to compare the safety and effectiveness of two dosage schedules for ISIS 2922 in the treatment of advanced cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis
NCT00002015
To evaluate the pharmacokinetics of intravenous ganciclovir in children (ages 3 months - 12 years). To determine the safety and tolerance of a 2 to 3 week induction course of ganciclovir IV in immunocompromised children receiving treatment for life- or sight-threatening cytomegalovirus infections.
NCT00000846
To evaluate safety and immunogenicity of 2 different HIV-1 peptide candidate vaccines, the UBI HIV-1 MN PND peptide immunogen and the UBI microparticulate monovalent HIV-1 MN branched peptide when administered sequentially by 2 different routes of immunization, parental priming followed by oral boosting.
NCT00047476
To evaluate the efficacy of dexmethylphenidate (d-MPH) in the treatment of chemotherapy-related fatigue in adult cancer subjects.
NCT00005104
OBJECTIVES: I. Determine whether reduction of serum insulin levels by metformin increases ovulatory response to clomiphene citrate in women with polycystic ovary syndrome.
NCT00047775
A placebo-controlled trial of BiDil added to standard therapy in African-American patients with heart failure.
NCT00069511
This is a multi-center study. Neither the study subjects nor the physicians will know what treatment an individual subject is receiving. Subjects will be randomly assigned (like flipping a coin) to one of five treatment groups. The treatment groups include four different dosing groups of active study drug and one group of subjects who will receive placebo. A 12 week follow up period occurs after the 12 weeks of dosing. The study endpoint is a reduction in Hepatitis C viral load.
