NCT00877292
The study will examine the sensitivity and specificity of a circulating cell-free nucleic acid test (DNA/RNA) to identify Down syndrome between about 10 weeks and 21 weeks 6 days gestation. In addition, the new test may be used to identify trisomy 13 and 18 as part of a more complete laboratory developed test. We hypothesize that the new circulating cell-free fetal NA-based test will accurately and precisely measure specific fetal markers in maternal circulation and that measurement will lead to the ability to noninvasively identify with high sensitivity and specificity, fetal chromosome abnormalities, such as Down syndrome.
NCT00695318
This study will compare the safety and efficacy of Medidur FA treatment in one eye to the sham-treated fellow eye of subjects with geographic atrophy secondary to AMD.
NCT00650091
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a long-term lung disease that affects an individual's ability to breathe. In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, we assigned patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis who had mild-to-moderate lung-function impairment to one of three groups - receiving a combination of prednisone, azathioprine, and NAC (combination therapy), NAC alone, or placebo - in a 1:1:1 ratio.
NCT01781819
Urine reflux (urine backing up into the kidneys) is common in the pediatric population and may be complicated by renal abnormalities, such as infection and scarring. Currently, urine reflux is detected using either voiding cystourethrogram or other procedures. A new technique called ultrasound-based Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse (ARFI), or shear wave velocity imaging SVI) is performed using standard approved ultrasound machines and transducers bu the sound waves/impulses are produced in a different pattern. We hope to evaluate the usefulness of ARFI in diagnosing possible kidney damage caused from urine reflux (urine backing up into the kidneys).
NCT01781845
Pediatric upper urinary tract dilatation (hydronephrosis) is relatively common and may be either obstructive or nonobstructive. While the upper urinary tract is commonly evaluated by ultrasound, this imaging technique often fails to distinguish obstructed from nonobstructed systems. ARFI SVI is a new ultrasound technology that can be used to determine stiffness by measuring a tissue's shear wave velocity, may show alterations in parenchymal shear wave velocity in kidneys that show obstruction on DRS (Diuretic renal scintigraphy)which serves as the reference standard.
NCT01272570
The 3 Specific Aims are (1) To determine the prevalence, incidence and severity of oral conditions in postmenopausal early stage breast cancer survivors within the first 18 months of adjuvant Aromatase Inhibitor(AI) therapy, (2) To determine the oral health quality of life among postmenopausal early stage breast cancer survivors who are receiving AI therapy, (3) To determine the utilization of dental care among postmenopausal women receiving AIs with a history of early stage BCa over time. The hypothesis for this pilot study is that AIs negatively impact oral health and oral health quality of life in the setting of breast cancer survivors. Further, we hypothesize that dental visits are underutilized in women with BCa undergoing adjuvant AI therapy.
NCT01009151
The proposed pilot project is aimed at assessing the feasibility, acceptability and impact of a web-based home tele-monitoring system among congestive heart failure patients at the University of Michigan Health System. The intervention consists of daily reporting via the internet on health parameters, such as weight, blood pressure, heart rate and heart failure symptoms. In addition to symptom and data reporting, the system provides links to educational material on heart failure and reminders for self-care measures. It is designed as an inexpensive, user-friendly, and clinically effective system. Each patient will be provided with a unique name and password, and will be instructed on how to use the self-management website. The proposed home monitoring system study holds the potential to improve the lives of heart failure patients treated at the University of Michigan Health System by empowering them to participate actively in their care and to reduce the risk of hospitalization. As heart failure represents the most common hospital diagnosis related group (DRG)among the elderly, this study offers a significant public health benefit.
NCT00003325
RATIONALE: Lymphatic mapping may improve the ability to detect cancer of the vulva. PURPOSE: This phase III trial is studying how well lymphatic mapping works in treating patients with stage I or stage II cancer of the vulva.
NCT00217633
This phase II trial is studying how well pelvic exenteration works in treating patients with recurrent cervical cancer. Pelvic exenteration may be effective in treating recurrent cervical cancer.
NCT00757588
The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of saxagliptin with those of placebo as add-on therapy to insulin and insulin with metformin in improving glycemic control at 24 and 52 weeks.
NCT01488929
Negative symptoms and cognitive dysfunction in schizophrenia (CDS) are core features of schizophrenia. These negative symptoms and cognitive deficits have a devastating impact on the function, employment, and social interactions of patients with schizophrenia. Medications used to treat schizophrenia (e.g. atypical antipsychotics) do not improve negative symptoms or CDS. TC-5619 is being developed for use as an add-on therapy in combination with atypical antipsychotics to treat patients with negative symptoms and CDS.
NCT02456831
This study evaluates the GI tolerance and acceptability of soy formulas fed to healthy term infants with reported intolerance to a milk-based formula.
NCT00420342
The main purpose of this study is to compare the effects of treatment of two different formulations of Angeliq® and Prempro on blood pressure in post-menopausal women with prehypertension.
NCT01346293
The study was designed to compare the safety and immunogenicity of DTap-IPV with DAPTACEL® + IPOL® as the 5th dose booster in children ≥ 4 to \< 7 years of age in the US and Puerto Rico who were previously vaccinated with DAPTACEL® and/or Pentacel® vaccines only. Primary Objectives: * To compare the pertussis \[Pertussis Toxoid (PT), Filamentous Haemagglutinin (FHA), Pertactin (PRN), and Fimbriae Types 2 and 3 (FIM)\] booster responses and geometric mean concentrations (GMCs) (as measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay \[ELISA\]) following DTap-IPV vaccination to those elicited following DAPTACEL® + IPOL® vaccination when administered as a 5th dose. * To compare the diphtheria and tetanus booster responses and GMCs (as measured by ELISA) following DTap-IPV vaccination with those elicited following DAPTACEL® + IPOL® vaccinations when administered as a 5th dose . * To compare the Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine booster responses (as measured by neutralizing assay) following DTap-IPV vaccination with those elicited following DAPTACEL® + IPOL® vaccinations. Observational Objectives: * To compare the polio (types 1, 2, and 3) geometric mean titers (GMTs) following DTap-IPV vaccination with those elicited following DAPTACEL® + IPOL® vaccinations. * To assess the safety of DTap-IPV vaccine or DAPTACEL® + IPOL® vaccine when administered as the fifth dose booster vaccine in participants previously vaccinated with DAPTACEL and/or Pentacel vaccines.

NCT01624311
This is a pilot study which will test the safety and feasibility of hypothermia treatment as adjunct therapy to conventional treatment of hyperammonemic encephalopathy (HAE) in neonates versus conventional treatment (dialysis, nutritional therapy, and ammonia scavenging drugs) only. The endpoint of the pilot study will be reached when either 24 patients have been enrolled and no serious adverse events were observed, when no patient has been enrolled in 5 years, or when serious adverse events occur which are clearly linked to the use of hypothermia. These would be serious complications not seen in patients on conventional therapy (dialysis , nutritional therapy, ammonia scavenging drugs) for HAE.
NCT01739595
