NCT01902745
There are over 2 million breast cancer survivors today. Persistent cancer-related fatigue (PCRF), a state of being tired or weary, is one of the most common and distressing symptoms experienced by breast cancer (BC) survivors. PCRF is associated with decreased quality of life, decreased sleep quality, depression, chronic pain and impaired cognition. Currently, there are few treatment options for PCRF and existing treatment options are associated with significant costs, are a considerable burden on the part of the patient, or have unacceptable side-effects. As such, there is a clear need to conduct studies evaluating the impact of safe, easy to implement and inexpensive treatments for PCRF in BC survivors. Individualized nutritional counseling has been found to be beneficial for decreasing fatigue and improving quality of life in cancer patients receiving treatment. However, there is a dearth of research examining the use of diet for treating fatigue in cancer survivors. Our preliminary data in 40 adult cancer survivors found that fatigue severity was associated with decreased intake of key food groups, e.g., green leafy vegetables, and nutrients, e.g., omega-3 fatty acids, as reported in diet records. However, diet records are often not highly correlated with actual nutrient concentrations in the body and tend to capture short-term dietary habits not long-term patterns. The main objective of this research is to expand upon and confirm our cross-sectional preliminary data and to take advantage of a pilot clinical dietary study we are conducting by examining key nutrient differences in biological samples in the breast cancer survivors. By examining differences in biological samples we will be able to explore three key questions, which will directly influence our future interventional studies: (1) to determine if there are actual differences in concentrations of key nutrients in body tissue and which nutrients these are; (2) to assess if a dietary intervention focused on improving fatigue in BC survivors changes baseline levels of key nutrients; and (3) what is the effect size and variability of change in key nutrients in body tissue both at baseline and after a dietary intervention.
NCT00903370
The purpose of the research is to determine whether treating atrial fibrillation with surgical ablation during scheduled mitral valve surgery is better than mitral valve surgery by itself without the surgical ablation. Surgical ablation of atrial fibrillation is a technique used by surgeons to deaden atrial heart tissue and block electrical signals that may be causing your heart to beat irregularly. There are no new procedures being tested in this study; both mitral valve surgery and surgical ablation are used regularly in patients who have mitral valve problems and atrial fibrillation, although no surgical ablation devices have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. What is not known with certainty, is whether patients with atrial fibrillation who are having planned mitral valve surgery would do better if they also had surgical ablation rather than medication alone to treat their atrial fibrillation.
NCT00445718
This natural history study is collecting health information about infants with adrenal masses found on prenatal and/or neonatal imaging. Gathering information over time from imaging and laboratory tests of infants with adrenal masses may help doctors learn more about the disease and plan the best treatment.
NCT01667536
This was a multicenter, multi-reader, open-label, Phase 2 study assessing the safety and performance characteristics of MIP 1404 imaging in the detection of prostate gland and pelvic lymph node cancer. Comparative performance characteristics between MIP 1404 imaging and MRI were also assessed, as judged by histopathology results.
NCT01793441
This multi-center, randomized, double-blind, parallel group, placebo-controlled, proof of concept study will investigate the efficacy and safety of RG7314 in adult participants with ASD. In Stage I of the study, participants will be randomized in 2:1 to receive daily oral doses of 1.5 milligrams (mg) RG7314 or placebo for 12 weeks. After an independent safety review, the study may proceed to Stage II. In Stage II of the study, additional participants will be randomized in 2:1 to receive daily oral doses of 4 mg RG7314 or placebo for 12 weeks. After an independent safety review, Stage III will be started wherein additional participants will be randomized in 2:1 to receive daily oral doses of 10 mg RG7314 or placebo for 12 weeks. During Stage III, safety will be reviewed by independent safety review twice and if no safety signal is observed, then additional participants will be randomized in 1:1:1 either to receive 1.5 milligrams per day (mg/day) or 10 mg/day RG7314 orally or placebo for 12 weeks in Stage IV.
NCT01754480
This study is designed to assess the safety and efficacy of Fibrin Sealant Grifols in patients undergoing open surgical procedures where bleeding may be present on parenchymous tissue (e.g., solid abdominal organs such as the liver). The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that Fibrin Sealant Grifols is not inferior to commercially-available oxidized cellulose pads (Surgicel®) in providing benefit in the time to hemostasis (i.e, the stoppage of bleeding). This study has a Preliminary Part (I) for study teams to become familiar with the application of Fibrin Sealant Grifols and to assess safety and a Primary Part (II) to assess the safety and efficacy of Fibrin Sealant Grifols. In both parts of the study, patients will be randomized in a 1:1 ratio to either Fibrin Sealant Grifols or Surgicel.
NCT01074944
The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of once daily (QD) versus twice daily (BID) dosing of eliglustat tartrate (Genz-112638) in participants with Gaucher disease type 1 who had demonstrated clinical stability on BID dosing of eliglustat tartrate (Genz-112638). The secondary objective was to evaluate the pharmacokinetics (PK) of Genz-99067 when eliglustat tartrate (Genz-112638) was administered QD and BID in participants with Gaucher disease type 1 who had demonstrated clinical stability on BID dosing of eliglustat tartrate (Genz-112638).
NCT01471782

NCT02071927
Many tumor cells, in contrast to normal cells, have been shown to require the amino acid glutamine to produce energy for growth and survival. To exploit the dependence of tumors on glutamine, CB-839, a potent and selective inhibitor of the first enzyme in glutamine utilization, glutaminase, will be tested in this Phase 1 study in patients with leukemia. This study is an open-label Phase 1 evaluation of CB-839 in subjects with leukemia. Part 1 is a dose escalation study to identify the recommended Phase 2 dose as a single agent and in combination with azacitidine. Patients enrolled into Part 2 will be treated with the recommended Phase 2 dose. As an extension of Part 2, patients with relapsed/ refractory or newly diagnosed AML will be treated with CB-839 in combination with azacitidine. All patients will be assessed for safety, pharmacokinetics (plasma concentration of drug), pharmacodynamics (inhibition of glutaminase), biomarkers (biochemical markers that may predict responsiveness in later studies), and tumor response.
NCT01261767
This trial is conducted in the United States of America (USA). The aim of this clinical trial is evaluate the safety and tolerability of anti-IL-20 in patients with psoriasis and to determine the preliminary efficacy in an expansion phase of this trial. This trial consists of 3 parts: A single dose (SD) dose-escalation phase for 16 weeks, a multiple dose (MD) dose-escalation phase for 22 weeks, and a MD expansion phase for 22 weeks. Initiation of the MD expansion phase will depend on results from the SD and MD dose-escalation phases and only if an acceptable safety profile is present. Subjects participating in the expansion phase are not allowed to have participated in the previous phases (SD and MD dose-escalation phases) of the trial.
