NCT03629145
The study is a randomized controlled trial of pediatric patients ages birth to two years of age who are mechanically ventilated and sedated as a result of a respiratory virus. The experimental group will receive twenty minutes of live, preferred music with a board-certified music therapist and the control group will receive twenty minutes of recorded music, also preferred, both interventions conducted at bedside. Caregivers will take a pre and post survey.
NCT03625011
The purpose of this pilot study: 1) to examine the use of gabapentin in reducing pain in the first 48 hours postoperatively including the total amount of narcotics mg/kg given 2) to record the time to first analgesic postoperatively and 3) to compare Wong Baker and the 0-10 numeric pain distress scale scores at 12, 24 and 48 hours postoperatively. We hypothesize one 15mg/kg (up to 600mg) dose of gabapentin will decrease mean narcotic amounts in mg/kg compared to participants who do not receive preoperative gabapentin and will demonstrate a decreased mean time to first analgesic as well as to lower mean pain scores for each age group at 12, 24 and 48 hours.
NCT03552146
The primary purpose of this observational study is to compare what drugs work best in sedating children (\> 3 months to \< 36 months) who need an MRI. This type of research may help clinicians (healthcare providers) learn more about how dexmedetomidine works compared to propofol. The investigators are planning to have 60 children complete the study at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. Half (30) of the patients will be randomized to receive dexmedetomidine and the other half will receive propofol. (Both drugs are licensed and approved for the sedation performed for consented patients.)
