NCT00419744
The purpose of this study is to determine if SYMBICORT® delivered via a pressurized metered-dose inhaler, referred to as a pMDI, is effective in preventing COPD exacerbations.
NCT01202396
Pouchitis is a common complication following proctocolectomy with ileal pouch anal anastomosis (IPAA) in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC). It affects the quality of life and can become a chronic problem. The aetiology of pouchitis is not completely understood. A crucial role of the intestinal microbiota has been suggested, but no causative agent has been identified so far. Furthermore, the defensin expression and the epithelial integrity are altered in inflammatory bowel diseases and may play an important role in the development of intestinal inflammation. Therefore, it has been hypothesized that the interaction between an altered microbiota composition, a defective epithelial integrity and changes in innate defense parameters such as defensins has a pivotal role in the development of pouchitis in UC patients.
NCT01032785
It is known that the foramen ovale closes in most infants during the first 6 months of life, however, most of the important papers in the field concentrated on observing infants with murmurs and following those with patent foramen ovale by echocardiography until 6-24 months. The purpose of this study is to observe the natural profile of closure of the foramen ovale and ductus arteriosus for the first 36 hours after birth. This understanding may help to avoid unnecessary treatment and exams for newborns with findings that are natural for their stage of development.
NCT01186653
National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines recommend high dose inhaled steroids for patients with moderate to severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD, a common chronic disease related to smoking) who are having two or more exacerbations requiring treatment with antibiotics or oral steroids in a 12 month period. The preparations licensed for this indication commercially available are Symbicort® and Seretide®. High dose inhaled steroids (contained in both) can cause suppression of the adrenal glands. The investigators want to assess adrenal suppression caused by the two preparations and compare. The results could guide investigators in prescribing these preparations.
NCT01189734
Many options are available for management of common bile duct stones. the most recent development in this field is single-session approach by one of two methods; laparoscopic common bile duct exploration and intraoperative endoscopic sphincterotomy. In this study, the investigators prospectively compare these two methods for management of patients with preoperatively diagnosed common bile duct stones to settle the best option.
NCT00875160
This is an open-label study designed to assess if AT2101 is safe in patients with Gaucher disease and how AT2101 gets through the body after it is taken by mouth. The study is being offered to adult patients with type 1 Gaucher disease who are currently receiving a stable dose of enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) with imiglucerase. During the study, subjects will not be receiving ERT (up to 35 days). The study consists of a screening period (\~14 days), a treatment period (12 days) and a follow-up period (7 days after last dose). At two points in the study, subjects will be housed in an in-patient treatment facility for 3 days/2 nights to accommodate all necessary blood draws.
NCT00300547
The purpose of this study is to diagnose possible synchronous carcinomas and polyps with magnetic resonance (MR) colonography in patients booked for operation because of carcinoma in the descending or sigmoid colon, where a preoperative full colonoscopy is not possible. Two days before colonography, patients ingest a 200 ml Barium sulfate solution four times a day, which will render fecal masses "invisible" on the following MR colonography. The study is primarily a feasibility study with altered operative strategy as a secondary end-point. Gold standard is colonoscopy and operation.
NCT00570362
The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether systemic glutathione level is decreased in patients with normal tension glaucoma.
NCT01102673
The purpose of this study is to characterize the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics (PK) and preliminary food effect of PF-04991532 following single escalating oral doses in healthy adult subjects.
NCT01172093
OSA is prevalent among patients with type II DM
NCT00076323
This study will evaluate a new and safe testing method for identifying medicines that can cause problems in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficient individuals. We are looking for volunteers with G6PD deficiency who would be willing to donate blood samples.
NCT00531765
We plan to conduct an open-label, randomized, stratified, parallel-group study to compare normal saline infusion to sodium bicarbonate infusion.
NCT00346931
The purpose of the study is to determine whether combined cataract and glaucoma surgery (phacotrabeculotomy)is more effective in lowering intraocular pressure than cataract surgery alone in patients with borderline control of intraocular pressure.
NCT01034293
The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of feeding frequency on glucose and insulin metabolism and substrate partitioning.
NCT00917670
Ultrastructural analysis of trabeculectomy specimens of patients with uveitic secondary glaucoma. To evaluate morphological changes and to compare to primary open angle glaucoma patients.
NCT00886860
The purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy for cervical ripening in labor induction between titrated and conventional oral misoprostol
NCT01161381
Objective: Obstructive Sleep Apnea-Hypopnea Syndrome (OSAHS) is a common sleep disorder requiring the time and money consuming full polysomnography to be diagnosed. Alternative methods for initial evaluation are sought. The investigators aim was the prediction of Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI) in patients suspected to suffer from OSAHS using two models based on nonlinear analysis of three biosignals during sleep. Methods: One hundred patients referred to a Sleep Unit underwent full polysomnography. Three nonlinear indices (Largest Lyapunov Exponent, Detrended Fluctuation Analysis and Approximate Entropy) were extracted from three biosignals (airflow from a nasal cannula, thoracic movement and Oxygen saturation) providing input to a data mining application for the creation of predictive models for AHI.
NCT01131806
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is characterized as inflammatory airway with not fully reversible airflow limitation.Combination treatment with inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) and long-acting β2 agonists (LABA)attains an improved control of symptoms and lung function, that are superior to those associated with either drug alone. However, the treatment efficacy between high and medium dose of inhaled corticosteroid in combination of LABA is still unknown. The aim of the current study is to investigate the treatment efficacy with high and medium dose of fluticasone in combination with salmeterol in COPD patients.
NCT00563498
The primary purpose of this project is to investigate if addition of glutamine, an amino acid, to standard parenteral nutrition, may improve the clinical outcome of the bone marrrow transplantation reducing the occurrence of veno-occlusive disease and severity of mucositis.
NCT01153750
To test the efficacy of a combination chemotherapy of imatinib and 5-FU in advanced or metastatic cholangiocellular carcinoma.
