NCT03506178
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is an increasingly prevalent disorder characterized by repeated upper airway collapse during sleep, resulting in oxygen desaturation and frequent arousals. The etiology of OSA remains unclear. Many studies indicates an association between nasal obstruction and apnea. However, the precise nature of this relationship is far from clear and the importance of resistance to nasal airflow in the pathogenesis of airway collapse in OSA patients remains contentious. In this study, investigators perform 4 different ways to change subjective or objective patency of nasal cavity and observe the effects of the nasal airflow on nocturnal breathing, sleep, and upper airway muscles in OSA patients.
NCT02370654
This study will evaluate the effects of Chen-style Tai Chi compared to conventional exercise in pulmonary rehabilitation for COPD patients. Half of participants will receive the Chen-style Tai Chi intervention, while the other half will receive the conventional exercise intervention. Both groups will receive the same eduction and support during pulmonary rehabilitation.
NCT01537393
The purpose of this study is to determine if the 3-year graft failure rate following endothelial keratoplasty performed with donor corneas with a preservation time of 8 to 14 days is non-inferior to the failure rate when donor corneas with a preservation time of 7 or fewer days are used.
NCT00555152
This randomized phase I/II trial studies the side effects and best dose of lapatinib ditosylate and to see how well it works in treating patients with ductal breast carcinoma in situ. Lapatinib ditosylate may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth.
NCT02066103
Assess the safety and feasibility of local oncological drug delivery into the bronchial wall after recanalization of subjects with malignant airway obstruction. Safety and feasibility (technical success) will be assessed. This localized delivery is intended as an adjunct therapy and all subjects will receive standard of care oncology therapy as determined by their treating physicians.
NCT00101036
This phase II trial is studying how well lapatinib works in treating patients with locally advanced or metastatic biliary tract or liver cancer that cannot be removed by surgery. Lapatinib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth.
NCT01915940
The objective of this Phase 2 study is to evaluate whether the Bimatoprost Ocular Insert is non-inferior to that of timolol ophthalmic solution (0.5%) at 12 weeks.
NCT03451318
The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy and safety of drug therapy, tonsillar adenoidectomy only, orthodontic treatment only and tonsillar adenoidectomy plus orthodontic treatment in children with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) and malocclusion. In this study, we hope to improve children's OSAH in function, three-dimensional shape and subjective and objective symptoms of sleep breathing through tonsillar adenoidectomy plus orthodontic treatment.
NCT01976039
Professionals working in polluted areas may present increased clinical airways symptoms and dysfunction. Rhinopharyngeal retrograde clearance (RRC) has been used to improve mucus clearance in infants with bronchitis and bronchiolitis, and instillation the nasal cavity with saline has been used to reduce nasal inflammation in rhinitis and sinusopathies. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of RRC and RCC combined with saline (RRC+S) on nasal mucociliary clearance (MCC), mucus surface property, cellularity and airways symptoms in professional motorcyclists.
NCT00273104
This follow up study (\>1 year) aims to compare the effects of lifestyle intervention and gastric by pass surgery on various comorbidities associated with morbid obesity.
NCT02274194
The obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) affects between 10% to 25% of the adults. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the first choice of treatment in severe OSA. However, the adherence to CPAP varies, and the interface between patient and the CPAP may interfere with adherence, comfort and efficiency as well as in sleep variables. Objectives: (1) to determine if self-reported airflow route (nasal or oronasal airflow) is the same as the route determined in a laboratory analysis in controls (healthy subjects) and severe OSA patients with nasal free airflow of obstruction during asleep and awake, (2) to compare the effects of nasal and oronasal CPAP titration (randomized order of masks, 14 days apart) on apnoea-hypopnoea index, CPAP level, PSG variables - including analysis for body positioning, the airway defense mechanisms (nasal mucociliary clearance, mucus properties, citology and inflammation in nasal lavage fluid) and systemic effects (serum miRNA expression and cytokines), (3) CPAP adherence after 1 month and 12 months.
NCT01995032
The purpose of the study is to show that the intake of L-citrulline and metformin improves muscle function and delay of progression in patients with Duchenne's muscular dystrophy.
NCT03501017
Objective: The aim of the first part of this study with two stages is to determine prevalence of CVD risk and the associated variables in individuals aged 40-65 years registered in a Family Health Center (FHC) in city center of Antalya; the aim of the second one is to evaluate the effect of intervention to increase physical activity in individuals with moderate risk of CVD on decreasing the risk level. Methods: Stage 1 and Stage 2 were conducted as cross-sectional and Randomized Controlled Experimental Trial, respectively. In the first stage the CVD risk level was calculated using the HeartScore. In the second stage, 11 individuals with moderate CVD risk (2-\<5%) found in the intervention group participated into a 12-week physical activity program (a moderate walk outdoor, with group 5 days in a week, each lasting for 40 minutes) guided by nurse. CVD brochure and physical activity guide was distributed to 11 individuals in control group within the scope of routine practice of FHCs.
NCT00758186
The objective of this randomized controlled trial was to evaluate the role colonic self-expanding metal stent (SEMS) placement as a bridge to surgery in patients with acute malignant left-sided colonic obstruction. The study was designed to test the hypothesis that SEMS placement could be effectively and safely used in this group of patients to relieve colonic obstruction thereby allowing safe recovery and medical stabilization before proceeding to elective surgery
NCT02851628
The investigation is a prospective non-blinded and semi-randomized clinical investigation. The investigation is designed to assess the alternative sizing model which the trial mask concept is based on and how it compares to a conventional sizing present in the Prototype Full Face Mask (PFFM) mask.
NCT02979184
Rehabilitation results in a decrease of the perimeters of the limb with lymphedema by a decrease in the amount of liquid of the affected limb, with movement of the intracellular liquid towards the trunk and the neck then into the jugular-subclavian confluence, the superior vena cava and right atrium without modification of extracellular fluid. No study have evaluated the prevalence of sleep apnea syndrome in this population and the effect of this treatment on sleep apnea syndrome.
NCT01969448
The investigators hypothesize that nipple-areola skin sparing mastectomy (NASSM) performed through an inframammary incision has a superior blood supply relative to a lateral oblique incision. Moreover, by minimizing complications and optimizing aesthetic outcomes, the investigators believe it will be associated with significantly higher patient reported outcome scores. The addition of information gained by use of intraoperative laser-assisted fluorescent angiography (measured with the Spy Elite imaging device) will reduce complication rates by directing intraoperative resection of ischemic tissue and limiting the volume of immediate implant placement in instances where real time imaging would suggest compromised perfusion. These quantifiable, objective measures will justify the use of NASSM and immediate implant placement coupled with intraoperative laser-assisted fluorescent angiography in prosthetic based breast reconstruction despite longer operative times.
NCT02975024
Apply the LSCI for follow-up the postoperative microcirculation after surgical procedures to enlarge keratinized gingiva in order to characterize the kinetics of the blood flow changes during wound healing in human subjects.
