PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of topotecan in treating children who have relapsed acute leukemia, acute myeloid leukemia, or blast phase chronic myelogenous leukemia.
NCT00002805
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more cancer cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy in treating patients with acute myeloid leukemia or myelodysplastic syndrome in first relapse or who did not achieve first remission.
NCT00933985
This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of obatoclax mesylate when given together with vincristine sulfate, doxorubicin hydrochloride, and dexrazoxane hydrochloride in treating young patients with relapsed or refractory solid tumors, lymphoma, or leukemia. Obatoclax mesylate may stop the growth of cancer cells by blocking some of the proteins needed for cell growth and causing the cells to self-destruct. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as vincristine sulfate, doxorubicin hydrochloride, and dexrazoxane hydrochloride, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving obatoclax mesylate together with combination chemotherapy may kill more cancer cells.
NCT00317642
Clofarabine (injection) is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of pediatric patients 1 to 21 years old with relapsed acute or refractory lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) who have had at least 2 prior treatment regimens. There is no recommended standard treatment for relapsed or refractory acute myelogenous leukemia in older patients. Cytarabine is the most commonly used drug to treat these patients. This study will determine if there is benefit by combining clofarabine with cytarabine. Patients will be randomized to receive up to 3 cycles of treatment with either placebo in combination with cytarabine or clofarabine in combination with cytarabine. Randomization was stratified by remission status following the first induction regimen (no remission \[i.e., CR1 = refractory\] or remission \<6 months vs CR1 = remission ≥6 months). CR1 is defined as remission after first pre-study induction regimen. The safety and tolerability of clofarabine in combination with cytarabine and cytarabine alone will be monitored throughout the study.
NCT00373529
Clolar (clofarabine injection) is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of pediatric patients 1 to 21 years old with relapsed acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) who have had at least 2 prior treatment regimens. This study will evaluate the efficacy of clofarabine in elderly patients with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) who are unlikely to benefit from treatment with intensive chemotherapy regimens (cytarabine and anthracycline based regimens) used in younger patients with AML.
NCT00940524
This research study is for people with a specific type of leukemia called Philadelphia chromosome positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (the type the patients have). The investigators plan to give you combination of 3 drugs (dasatinib, mitoxantrone, cytarabine) for the first part of the chemotherapy (called Induction). The investigators have previously shown that the combination of mitoxantrone and cytarabine is very effective in your kind of leukemia. The purpose of this study is to establish a safe dose range of dasatinib in combination with this standard induction chemotherapy based on side effects. If possible, the trial will also give us an idea of how well this combination might work in treating your leukemia. Previous studies have shown that dasatinib can produce responses when given alone for your kind of leukemia. By using the dasatinib together with the chemotherapy, the investigators believe that we can kill even more leukemia cells than with either treatment alone. The investigators will initially treat patients with a low dose of dasatinib and monitor for side-effects. If the initial group of patients is able to tolerate this low-dose of dasatinib, then future patients will receive higher doses of dasatinib. Mitoxantrone and cytarabine chemotherapy is the standard therapy at the investigators' institution for the patient's leukemia and it is the combination of dasatinib with this chemotherapy that is new and investigational in this study.
NCT00002485
RATIONALE: Taking part in a clinical trial may help children with cancer receive more effective treatment. PURPOSE: Determine why patients who are eligible for protocols made available through the Pediatric Oncology Group do not enroll in them, and develop strategies to increase enrollment on these clinical trials.
NCT00002756
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one chemotherapy drug and giving them as induction intensification may kill more cancer cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well induction intensification works in treating infants with newly diagnosed acute lymphocytic leukemia.
NCT01273090
RATIONALE: Imetelstat sodium may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. PURPOSE: This phase I clinical trial is studying the side effects and best dose of imetelstat sodium in treating young patients with refractory or recurrent solid tumors or lymphoma.
NCT00644163
This study will evaluate the effectiveness of a risk-reduction program in preventing the transmission of HIV and sexually transmitted diseases among African-American heterosexual couples, with one partner having been previously diagnosed with an HIV infection.
NCT01473693
The purpose of this study is to learn about the effects of cancer treatment on the brain. Some cancer patients report changes in their memory or thinking after treatment. These changes could be a result of changes in brain structure, such as a change in size or thickness of different parts of the brain. The investigators will look to see if these changes in brain structure happen through the results of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The investigators will do this by looking at the brain structure of lung cancer patients who have surgery and chemotherapy versus those who have surgery only.
NCT00003560
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combining docetaxel and carboplatin in treating patients who have stage III or stage IV ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer, or primary peritoneal cancer.
NCT00008164
RATIONALE: Umbilical cord blood or placental blood transplantation may be able to replace immune cells that were destroyed by the chemotherapy or radiation therapy that was used to kill cancer cells. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of umbilical cord blood and placental blood transplantation in treating patients who have hematologic cancer or aplastic anemia.
NCT00462787
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as clofarabine, topotecan, vinorelbine, thiotepa, and dexamethasone, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving more than one drug (combination chemotherapy) may kill more cancer cells. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of clofarabine when given together with topotecan, vinorelbine, thiotepa, and dexamethasone in treating young patients with relapsed or refractory acute leukemia.
NCT00499811
This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of vorinostat in treating patients with metastatic or unresectable solid tumors or lymphoma and liver dysfunction. (closed for accrual as of 04/05/2010) Vorinostat may stop the growth of cancer cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Vorinostat may have different effects in patients who have changes in their liver function.
NCT00366197
This trial examines weaning outcomes using the rapid shallow breathing index rate.
NCT00265603
The purpose of this study is to determine the safety of using a treatment called transimmunization in addition to standard therapy (radiation) in the treatment of lung cancer. Transimmunization is a treatment of the blood designed to boost the immune response against lung cancer. Transimmunization uses a device called a UVAR-XTS instrument, to remove a portion of blood, part of which is returned, and part of which is incubated overnight before being returned to the bloodstream the next day.
NCT01654536
This is a 6 month, multicenter, randomized, open label, parallel group, study to evaluate the nasal safety of ciclesonide nasal aerosol and ciclesonide aqueous nasal spray administered once daily to male and female subjects 12 years and older diagnosed with PAR.
NCT00015873
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more cancer cells. It is not yet known which combination chemotherapy regimen is most effective for treating infants with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to compare the effectiveness of different combination chemotherapy regimens in treating infants who have newly diagnosed acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
NCT00086580
This is a Phase 3, prospective, multicenter, open-label, randomized, controlled study to evaluate and compare the efficacy and safety of fludarabine plus alemtuzumab versus fludarabine alone as second-line therapy for patients with relapsed or refractory B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL). Patients who meet all eligibility criteria and sign the informed consent document may be entered on the study.
