This study evaluates the PCSK9 inhibitor, Bococizumab (PF-04950615;RN316), compared to placebo, in reducing the occurrrence of major cardiovascular events, including cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, stroke, and unstable angina requiring urgent revascularization in high risk subjects who are receiving background lipid lowering therapy and have cholesterol laboratory values of LDL-C \>/= 100 mg/dL (2.6 mmol/L) or non-HDL-C \>/=130 mg/dL (3.4 mmol/L).

We hypothesize that human epicardial fat plays a thermogenic role to the myocardium. We hypothesize that epicardial fat may express genes of brown fat and thyroid function that are down-regulated by the presence of coronary artery disease. Because the postulated metabolic role of the epicardial fat, we also hypothesize that the gene expression of these regulatory thermogenic factors is higher in epicardial than subcutaneous fat This will be a cross-sectional study conducted over a one-year period in patients with or without coronary artery disease who require elective cardiac surgery regardless their participation in the study. Study group will be formed by 50 patients with clinically and angiographically established CAD who will undergo coronary artery bypass graft, as part of their standard medical care. Control group will be formed by 10 subjects, randomly selected, who will undergo cardiac surgery for aortic or mitral valve replacement as part of their standard medical care (these patients have no history, clinical signs of CAD, and show normal coronary arteries on coronary angiography). This will be a cross-sectional study conducted over a one-year period in patients with or without coronary artery disease who require elective cardiac surgery regardless their participation in the study. Adipose tissue will be collected during the cardiac surgery.

The purpose of this study is to characterize current management of patients with either heart failure or prior myocardial infarction and left ventricular dysfunction and to assess the effect of education, specific clinical guidelines, reminder systems, comprehensive disease state management tools, benchmarked quality reports, and academic detailing on the use of evidence-based heart failure therapies in cardiology practices. This study is a quality improvement initiative that is being conducted through review of patient records.

The study will assess canagliflozin (JNJ-28431754) in the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) with regard to cardiovascular (CV) risk for major adverse cardiac events (MACE). Other objectives include evaluating the overall safety, tolerability, and effectiveness of canagliflozin. The data from this study will be combined with the data from CANVAS-R study (Study of the Effects of Canagliflozin on Renal Endpoints in Adult Subjects with T2DM, NCT01989754) in a pre-specified integrated analysis of CV safety outcomes to satisfy US FDA post-marketing requirements for canagliflozin.

Primary Objective: To compare the effect of alirocumab with placebo on the occurrence of cardiovascular (CV) events (composite endpoint of coronary heart disease (CHD) death, non-fatal myocardial infarction (MI), fatal and non-fatal ischemic stroke, unstable angina (UA) requiring hospitalization) in participants who experienced an acute coronary syndrome (ACS) event 4 to 52 weeks prior to randomization and were treated with evidence-based medical and dietary management of dyslipidemia. The Moderate Alcohol and Cardiovascular Health Trial (MACH15) is a multicenter, worldwide, randomized clinical trial of \~15 gm of alcohol daily versus abstention, using a balanced parallel design and single-blind assessment of all outcomes among approximately 7,800 participants aged 50 years and older with advanced cardiovascular risk. Intervention will average 6 years in duration with a common close-out date. Following recruitment and pre-screening, participants will attend a screening visit followed by a two-week abstention washout period, a baseline visit and randomization, and subsequent visits at 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, and then annually until close-out.

Participants being evaluated for suspected or known Coronary artery Disease (CAD) based on signs and/or symptoms, will be invited to participate in the study. The duration for a participant in the study may range from 2 days to 4-6 weeks. One to four visits to the study doctor will be required. This study will investigate the diagnostic results of gadobutrol-enhanced Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging (CMRI) images regarding the detection (sensitivity) and exclusion (specificity) of coronary artery disease utilizing a uniform image acquisition software. The CMR images will be tested either against the results from routine clinical Coronary Angiography (CA) or those from Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA), which is used as the standard of reference. The CA/CTA may have been performed up to 4 weeks prior to enrollment or be scheduled up to 4/6 weeks after the study. CMRI and CA/CTA images will be collected for an independent image review (blinded read).
