Continuous Subcutaneous Insulin Infusion (CSII) via insulin pump therapy has been shown to improve quality of life and glucose control in many patients with diabetes opting for this treatment modality. Despite significant innovation and advancement in pump technology, insulin infusion sets have been an area where innovation has been significantly lacking with no clinical studies performed prior to product launches. BD has developed a subcutaneous infusion set with FlowSmart™ Technology designed to address patient comfort, insulin delivery and flow interruptions. According to preliminary animal and clinical studies, this technology results in lower infusion pressure indicating more consistent insulin delivery. The FlowSmart infusion set has been previously tested in prototype form with healthy non-diabetic subjects with the sets inserted by nurses, and with CSII-using patients who self-inserted the FlowSmart infusion set in a clinical research setting. The purpose of this study is to determine if insulin pump users prefer using the BD FlowSmart infusion set compared to their current set with respect to insertion pain and wear comfort.

The purpose of this study is to learn if a combination of BMS-477118 (Saxagliptin) and BMS -512148 (Dapagliflozin) added to Metformin can improve (decrease) Glycosylated Hemoglobin (Hemoglobin A1c) in patients with type 2 diabetes after 24 weeks of treatment. The safety of this treatment will also be studied.

Growing evidence over recent years supports a potential role for low grade chronic inflammation in the pathogenesis of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. In this study we will determine whether salsalate, a member of the commonly used Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) class, is effective in lowering sugars in patients with type 2 diabetes. The study will determine whether salicylates represent a new pharmacological option for diabetes management. The study is conducted in two stages. Enrollment in the first stage is complete. The primary objective of the first stage was to select a dose of salsalate that is both well-tolerated and demonstrates a trend toward improvement in glycemic control. The primary objective of Stage 2 of the study is to evaluate the effects of salsalate on blood sugar control in diabetes; the tolerability of salsalate use in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D); and the effects of salsalate on measures of inflammation, the metabolic syndrome, and cardiac risk.

The purpose of Part A of this study is to test whether repeated doses of the study drug (GSK1614235) are safe and well tolerated (i.e. do not produce unacceptable side effects) and whether we can obtain some preliminary information as to whether it works in lowering blood glucose levels. This study will assess safety and tolerability of metformin plus GSK189075 in people with Type 2 Diabetes. About 48 people will participate in this study. Volunteers will not know if they are receiving GSK189075 or a placebo. Participation will last about 5 weeks including a run-in period of up to 2 weeks if necessary to increase metformin up to 2000mg daily, a 13-day treatment period, and a follow-up visit about 1 week after the treatment period. Volunteers will remain in the research clinic beginning 2 days before they receive the first dose of GSK189075 until after the morning dose on the fourth day and from the afternoon of the 12th day of dosing until the morning after the last dose. They will have clinic visits on dosing Days 6, 8, and 10. Volunteers will be given equipment and instructions for measuring their blood sugar at home and will be asked to keep a study diary. Blood pressure, heart rate, laboratory tests on blood and urine, physical examinations, reports of drug side effects and ECGs will be obtained during the clinic visits to assess safety.
