The primary objectives of this study are to evaluate the potential for preoperative pharmacogenomics (PGx) testing to positively influence postoperative opioid use through visual analog scale (VAS) guided administration of narcotic equivalent and lower pain scores as measured by OBAS in patients undergoing major abdominal surgery.

RATIONALE: Chemoprevention is the use of certain drugs to keep cancer from forming. The use of celecoxib may keep polyps and colorectal cancer from forming in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis. PURPOSE: This randomized phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of celecoxib in treating young patients with a genetic predisposition for familial adenomatous polyposis.

The purpose of the Ohio Colorectal Cancer Prevention Initiative (OCCPI) is to reduce morbidity and mortality due to colorectal cancer (CRC) in the state of Ohio. By identifying individuals at high-risk for CRC (genetically predisposed) and providing screening recommendations for cancer risk reduction, the OCCPI will understand how to increase length of life and quality of life for those diagnosed with CRC in Ohio, as well as to better prevent CRC in others in Ohio. Participants will have free tumor screening for Lynch syndrome, and may be eligible for free genetic testing and free genetic counseling as part of this study.
