Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are diseases that affect a person's ability to breathe normally. People who do not receive enough vitamin D may have a higher risk of developing asthma or COPD. This study will examine previously collected blood samples of participants in three studies to determine whether people with low vitamin D levels have an increased risk of severe asthma or COPD.

This study will examine the hypothesis that iloprost maintains and improves ventilation perfusion matching in patients with pulmonary hypertension and ARDS/ALI as reflected by 1) an improved PaO2/FIO2 ratio as calculated from the measured arterial blood gases obtained before and after iloprost administration, 2) an improvement in lung compliance, and 3) an improvement in the ventilatory equivalents for oxygen and CO2 measured by expired gas analysis.

The primary objective in this pilot study is to explore if asthma patients prescribed fixed dose combinations (budenosid/formoterol (Symbicort®), salmeterol/fluticasone (Seretide®), beclometasone/formoterol (Innovair®) are optimal treated regarding the mannitol challenge test and the following reversibility test. The primary endpoint is to identify asthma patients responding positive or negative to the mannitol challenge test and/or the reversibility test. The hypothesis is that not all patients are well treated.
