The need for fluid resuscitation (FR) in ICU patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is common. Indeed, relative or absolute hypovolemia is a common phenomenon that the intensivist must recognize early and treat promptly. Fluid challenge may have adverse side effects associated with fluid administration. The diffusion within the interstitial space may favor edema formation and cause cardiac dysfunction by volume overload. Edema formation is global and may specifically alter pulmonary alveolar epithelial integrity, leading to enhanced alveolar edema and impaired gas exchange. Currently, two types of fluids are frequently used, crystalloids and colloids. Among colloids and compared to crystalloids, albumin has the theoretical advantage of causing greater volume expansion. We hypothesized that a fluid resuscitation therapy with albumin generates less pulmonary edema than a fluid resuscitation therapy with crystalloids. The aim of our study is to compare alveolar fluid clearance, as a marker of alveolar edema fluid resorption, in 2 groups of patients: those treated with albumin and those treated with crystalloid.

Sedation-analgesia is an important therapy for patients in resuscitation. It requires a surveillance, in order to avoid excessive or insufficient dosages of sedative or nonmorphinics, sources of side effects. Yet, means of surveillance are limited in resuscitation care : variations of blood pressure and heart rate are not very sensitive criterias. Clinical scales to measure the sedation and analgesia level were proposed for patients in resuscitation, including the Richmond (RASS) sedation scale and the behavioural pain scale (BPS). The study of pupillary dilatation's reflex (RDP) due to a nociceptive stimulation is a tool proposed for the monitoring of the analgesia peroperative for patients under general anaesthetic. Yet, there isn't any study that measured the analgesia threshold by pupillometry for patients in resuscitation receiving a sedation-analgesia. The main goal of this study is to measure the minimum intensity of a painful stimulation (tetanus), leading to a 10% raise of RDP in a cohort of patients in resuscitation care receiving sedation-analgesia continuously.

The EverOn™ system developed by EarlySense, Ltd., the sponsor of this study, is intended to assist hospitals to better address and improve recognition and response to changes in a patient's condition. The system, monitors the patient while in bed consists of a contact-free sensor that is placed under the bed mattress and identifies respiratory and heart rates, degree of patient's movement or agitation while in bed as well as patient's actual exit out of the bed. The EverOn system does not require a physical contact with the patient, eliminating the need for any direct contact electrodes, leads, cuffs or nasal cannulae.

This project is an observational study for the Italian language validation of the CARATKids questionnaire investigating the asthma and coexisting allergic rhinitis control in children. 113 patients with concomitant asthma and allergic rhinitis followed up from at least 3 months will be enrolled for the validation process at outpatient clinic of Pediatric Allergology \& Pulmonology (PAP) of Respiratory Disease Research Center (RDRC) within the Institute of Biomedicine and Molecular Immunology (IBIM) of the National Research Council (CNR) of Palermo (RDRC-IBIM CNR), Italy. The study will be completed in two medical examination, within 3-6 weeks of each other. CARATKids questionnaire, VAS (Visual Analogic Scale) and C-ACT (Children Asthma Control Test) will be filled by each patient. The main outcome is the Italian language validation of the CARATKids questionnaire investigating the coexisting asthma and allergic rhinitis control in children.

The details of the primary cannulation technique, number of attempts, time taken, failure and cross-over technique were recorded for three different hemodynamic subsets with Systolic blood pressure \<80 mm hg, 80-100 mm hg and \> 100 mm hg.

Despite the advances in pharmacological therapy for asthma, there has been an increasing worldwide interest in alternative therapies for asthma. Treatments and therapies such as yoga, acupuncture, homeopathy, hypnosis and Buteyko and other breathing techniques have been used as complementary therapies however little evidence exists behind such practices. Data from systemic reviews and randomized control trials provide evidence of benefit although additional confirmation is still needed. Among the most common techniques are the Buteyko breathing exercises that aim to reduce minute ventilation by instruct asthmatics patients to breathe shallowly and slowly through the nose. The second common technique is the Pranayama, or yoga breathing exercises which emphasizes deep respirations and exhalation prolongation. Our goal is to assess the effectiveness of breathing exercises as a complementary therapy for asthma.

Children who need to be on a ventilator often have thick secretions/mucus in their lungs. These secretions can obstruct the breathing tube and their windpipe, which can worsen lung function and prolong the need for the ventilator. Hypertonic saline is a medicine that is used to thin out secretions in patients with cystic fibrosis (and other conditions). We hypothesize that having children on a ventilator inhale this medication will shorten the amount of time that they need to be on the ventilator.
